I think Talkings Heads between 1977 and 1986 were an outstanding group with a fantastic discography and one the best in the history of rock. Things went downhill with "Naked" and got worse when David Byrne got more enveloped with world music, he should have left the whole world music thing to Peter Gabriel who did it so much better.

Or Paul Simon.

I've never been blown out of the water with it, but it seemed like solid work, no?

I'd say it was. Once you get past it not being what it is that got you into his music in the first place business. It's solid work from a top notch musician.

Sure David Byrne is going to be reasonably solid and my knowledge of Paul Simon`s work is pretty patchy. If the truth be told I`m not a huge fan of world music anyway, despite the fact I really like Peter Gabriel`s world music inspired material.

The nearest I get to liking world music these days is listening to Soulfly, who kind of merged trash and groove metal with world music.......but thats probably not going to appeal to many people that are into David Byrne and Paul Simon anyway.

Soulfly sounds like a Puya cover band.

Wow you know Puya the latin american metal band! Not too many people know them. Haven`t listened to them in years, but without doubt surely an influence for the Soulfly project.

To be fair Soulfly gradually moved out of the latin american influenced sound and incorporated a wider range of stuff before going back to their thrash and groove roots.

I own a few of their albums. Quite eclectic band with a really large sound live. I actually like Soulfly to a certain degree.

I think we're killing the T H thread. I always loved Tom Tom Club also.

I like Naked quite a bit to tell the truth. I've never understood what people have against it.
