Not many people know who Kraftwerk are period. 14 year olds might have a better idea since they are more prone to watch Dazed and Confused, but try asking on the bus. I've got an American $20 the first 5 you ask don't know. (if you're avoiding hipsters).

It's still OK to talk about older music and I would welcome chats of this nature.

Only Janszoon and Urban seem to not be bothered that they grew up with/still like music that is not de riguer with a modern music forum and it's a shame that there isn't more of us.

Don't get me wrong, it's not as if I try to hide my past in any way, I guess I just limit my time on here and prefer to discuss things I'm currently listening to or finding new stuff, for the most part. If I could spend all day on here and wasn't so lazy, I'd contribute more to discussions of stuff I used to listen to. I'm definitely not ashamed of anything.

I kind of wish everyone has heard the music I listen to now...I like to talk about it.

Yeah back in my teen and college years I liked being the guy to always recommend stuff to my friends, the "obscure music guy" even though the stuff wasn't really that obscure, they just didn't know about it. But it has definitely gotten old. I'm addicted to online forums now because there seems to be no one in the real world that listens and likes to talk about good music. Or maybe I'm just antisocial and I don't interact with enough of them. :p:

The song would forever be linked in my mind with an adventure!

Totally agree with this post. I have many memories of searching for hard to find albums (not this great of a memory though) and it's kind of cool. These days everything is a few clicks away unless you're seeking a physical copy. But to be honest I'm ok with that, being an old man and all. :p: Not really up for the hunt anymore.

i didn't know about them till i joined this site and i'm gonna be 20 in a few months :(

but yeah, i'd say it depends on where as well as who you're asking, like said before they're not very popular stateside and tbh i know that if i ask a bunch of my friends they'd be drawing blanks

Especially since I'm 14 and my friends don't even know who kraftwerk is. I'm kinda sick of being the Obscure Band Person in the class.

I am the obscure band person in the class myself, well, more of the old school guy really, but still, nobody at my school knows of this band:

Exactly. Outside of my circle of friends who are really into music, very few of my friends know who Kraftwerk is.

I'm only doing his, as I don't know jack**** about anyone else.

N'aww thanks :D

Sansa Stark 08-19-2010 09:38 AM

Man y'all must have some lame friends if they don't know who Kraftwerk are

Mojo 08-19-2010 09:40 AM

Well to be honest, i would have said that a very, very, small percentage of 14 year old kids now would know who Kraftwerk were. Maybe a few more of them would have heard their name before but they wouldn't know shit about them. Why would they?

Sansa Stark 08-19-2010 09:42 AM

-shrug- I guess you're right, I knew who they were cause my parents were of that era. It's a lot weirder to not know DEVO I think

James 08-19-2010 10:15 AM

None of my friends know Devo.

Sansa Stark 08-19-2010 10:26 AM

DEVO's American though, they're especially more popular around here it seems (they're from the midwest)

TheCunningStunt 08-19-2010 10:27 AM

I didn't know who Devo were before I joined this forum. I didn't know a lot of bands before this forum. Yay for the forum!

Sansa Stark 08-19-2010 10:28 AM

Oh come on, how can you not have heard Whip It?

Not being from the States, I didn`t think Ohio was classified as the midwest.

FETCHER. 08-19-2010 04:14 PM

I dont know who devo or kraftwerk are...

RVCA 08-19-2010 04:31 PM

I know Devo, but had never heard of Kraftwerk until this forum.

FETCHER. 08-19-2010 04:43 PM

I still dont know them and I frequently read threads unrelated to anything I like :O. Ive been living under a rock apparantly :(

CanwllCorfe 08-19-2010 05:13 PM

I know of both of them. Not my cup of tea though

Stone Birds 08-19-2010 05:41 PM

i have never heard of devo, but i have heard of kraftwerk

They're energy domes.

right, and the sun is purple, the moon is red, and the grass is blue...

the only energy those give off is the attraction of someone coming to beat up someone else wearing those things (sorry i feel like being a jerk today)

It was designed according to ancient ziggurat mound proportions used in votive worship. Like the mounds it collects energy and recirculates it. In this case the Dome collects energy that escapes from the crown of the human head and pushes it back into the Medula Oblongata for increased mental energy. It's very important that you buy a cheap plastic hardhat liner, adjust it to your head size and affix it with duct tape or Super Glue to the inside of the Dome. This allows the Dome to "float" just above the cranium and thus do its job. Unfortunately, without a hard hat liner, the recirculation of energy WILL NOT occur

... yeah i knew what they were i was saying they're stupid

Sansa Stark 08-19-2010 06:12 PM

DEVO's a hell of a lot cooler than Bright Eyes.

Stone Birds 08-19-2010 06:14 PM

that's all opinion

plus "cool" is an overused meaningless word so ok

Sansa Stark 08-19-2010 06:16 PM

They're more original and their songs aren't 90% whining

They're supposed to look stupid. They aren't intended to be taken seriously.

Well, a punk fan would know everything about what's cool and what isn't. So the case is evidently at rest.

Dr.Seussicide 08-19-2010 09:10 PM

Well, now you see this is where the blatant hypocrisy of ignorance shoves it's stupid fucking head.

As Janszoon stated prior, Devo are supposed to look stupid. And are supposed to not be taken seriously.

Incidently, Bright Eyes are supposed to be emotional. Conor's voice is engineered for fucking whining. It's the reason why they're so popular. So when you complain about the whining, you can't blame people when they find Devo to just be plain fucking stupid right?

Give it a break.

Sansa Stark 08-19-2010 09:13 PM

But DEVO isn't stupid, maybe you'd know that if you knew anything ABOUT Devo, yeah? Their ****'s a hell of a lot more intelligent than what Conor Oberst bawls about

Please, you're so narrow minded about music you can barely see straight. Let alone tilt your head. Don't go making assumptions.

TheCunningStunt 08-19-2010 09:15 PM

Bright Eyes vs Devo, how'd this happen?
