Can't stand Shinoda's rhymes, Can't stand the singer/screamer guy's voice, nor his lyrics, can't stand the guitar lines and how stale and predictable they are, can't stand the drums and how stale and predictable THEY are, can't stand the entire formula for the way they put their songs together, and how they're presented... I dunno... the band as a whole does nothing for me.

^ I agree with most of what you said, except Shinoda.
I think he's pretty good. Especially as "Fort Minor". |

Now that all discussions for previous tangets seem to have concluded, can we get this back on track please? I would even do it myself but i think my brain just died a little. |

MM are the new REM. |
Right-track - its mostly a mystery. I think the man burned himself out on modding and now keeps a healthy distance. My only musical memory of him was downloading a northern soul song that had a bunch of preppy looking kids breakdancing (for lack of a better word). I wish he'd show face a tad more but then again I don't go many places on this forum.
Urban Hatemonger - I like Urban because he seems to be able to walk a tight-rope between being tongue-in-cheek about music while still knowing when to tell dummies off. Matter fact, I linked his 10 reasons the Stones are better than the beatles thread today to end an argument. I'm still suspect of his hatred of the Boss, however. Violent & Funky - Admitted one of my favorite people on here. Seems to pull music out of the ******* of a blackhole sometimes. In song wars I'm perenially thinking "where the **** did he find this madness?" but whatever transgressions he might commit, all sins are atoned for with his voting in Album Wars. ("I thought I saw Gwen Stefani in my toast once, so I'll vote for No Doubt") Flower Child - I'm not always in lockstep with her, but shes at least moving in the right direction. So I'd follow her into any dive bar. CunningStunt - I like the kid but he comes off stiff. I also think he speaks with his brain more than his heart, but youth will do stupid things to a man. He needs to bang a couple Snoop joints for a day. Just once. Janszoon - He's a mad scientist. Sometimes he comes up with some freaks of nature but for the most part he's got a good ear. If anything he strikes me as a little too polished. His "chances" are way way out there. I never see any risky choices. Freebase - He's willing to try. Which in music, as with women, is all you really need. Boo Boo - He's a little different, he just thinks too logically. I think theres a point in any dicussion, musical or otherwise, where he just can't comprehend certain statements (because they're illogical) and he looses it. They say music can soothe tha savage beast. Boo Boo is proof the Prog isn't music. I'd do more but I'm blanking. |

Also, your taste in music... You like Metallica rather a lot. But you also like The White Stripes. You also like Tom Waits, but I'm indifferent to him. That's all I know about your taste, so it's a toughie. Do you have RateYourMusic/Last.FM so I can have a nosey? |

Metallica is a legendary band whether you like them or not. And if you don't like Waits you're listening to the wrong ****. Other acts I really like: Black Keys Brad Paisley Cake Queens of the Stone Age Jay-Z I like some Mars Volta but I usually just put them on in the background My Morning Jacket Langhorne Slim Drive-by Truckers Nick Cave I like some of the National I'm growing to like Mumford & Sons, but Little Lion Man is a cancer on music. Modest Mouse Maroon 5 is a band that can jam out as far as I'm concerned. TV on the Radio have the ability to kill me. MC Paul Barman Ryan Adams Calexico I listen to a ****load of pop which I explain in my blog. Thursday Bands I ****ing hate Muse Klaxx !!! Any and all forms of emo Almost all R&B Jurrasic 5 Howie Day I'm sure theres more, but I can't think of any currently. |

Metallica are legendary? I dunno about that. They were once a respectable band that should've given it up years ago, just like U2. Should've fucked off years ago. Meh, mixed bag. I don't like The Mars Volta, I slightly prefer ATDI. Muse are good. ALL R&B? Do you mean all contemporary R&B or just R&B full stop? Most Emo is shit, I'd say over 90%. Bits and bobs out there that's pretty good though, but not really my thing. !!! are a bit rubbish. TV On The Radio are okay, not 'love worthy' though. Maroon 5 are God awful. Ryan Adams is a little boring. Never been able to really get into Cake, probably listened to the wrong album or summin' but what I heard I thought was poor. Drive-By Truckers, same as Cake really. Picked an album at random, Pizza Deliverance I think and it wasn't bad... but I didn't feel the need to listen to them again. But you like Modest Mouse, QOTSA and Nick Cave so you're not all bad. |

You included, it seems. I think I've covered most of my interest in the bands that date back over the previous decades and I'm unlikely to go over them again, unless I see the need to defend them due to some members blase indifference to what I'd consider to be a classic band, or some numpty's moronic claims with regards to an entire genre who's history appears to have been rewritten to include the latest theory according to the latest generation of 'music lovers'. You're right about the modding burning me out. Add to that a lengthy and ridiculously unhealthy stay, plus the fact that I usually tend to use these boards as a means of discovering new music. ( I don't think I've ever averaged more than 5 posts per day, much less these days) On new music. I'll either quickly discard as being tediously generic, or simply not of any real interest to me. And all that after only a brief listen. I like to sort the wheat from the chaff, so to speak, And the quicker the better. Even then, there's probably more than a few bands that have fallen victim to this tactic that probably deserved a fairer go, but unless something grabs me pretty instantly with either it's uniqueness, or musical superiority...it'll get binned pretty quick. I've got a very fussy ear. Which brings me to my love/obsession with the music of Northern Soul. A particular type of uptempo 60's rare Soul/R&B of which I refuse to get confused with any other genre. So much so, that I have two music collections segregated in different locations in the house. Northern Soul resides in my bedroom, away from the kids, under pain of death. The rest lives in my living room available for everyday use and the occasional guest. With the odd exception...I don't love them equally! |

First the music does almost nothing for me. Then the auxilliery is terrible. I hate the voice, I have the hype they got. Admittedly, I've heard only 1 song "must be the moonlight" but I was so offended I won't go back unless given the most successful, absolute mater piece they have. Quote:
I'm actually not bad at all. I just think tea part civility is for the birds. Quote:
If you average less than 5 a day, how are we supposed to remember? Also, Northern Soul appears to be beyond music in some capacities. No? |

I don't get why some people like Cake so much either, they aren't bad by any stretch but I just thought they were a bit meh. Real cake > the band Cake. |
Carrot cake > the world.
|
Not too many people do like cake. They're something of a cult band. The problem with Cake, I'd guess, for the common person is that the disparity between one song and the next, the beatuy of what they do isn't persented in a nice package thats terribly obvious.
A lot comes from the instrumentation, but you have to value the sparse. This isn't a James Brown or Gun's & Roses. The song writing, coupled with McCrea's voice speaks to certain people. We get where he is and where he's coming from. I wouldnt try and suggest they're a megastar band, but they are very good at what they do, not, in small part, to their song writing either. |

Hhaha...I think Big3 is the most misunderstood member here. Someone always ends up asking him what the hell he is talking about.
Don't worry, Big3, I think I understand what you are saying maybe 85% of the time. |

Assuming you mean it's not mainstream and readily available, then yes. In some respects it's rarity makes it reasonably inaccessible to most. It's no more beyond music than any other genre. Unless you're referring to it's superior content. It which case...it is! ;) |
