I think he's a great guy but his taste idk.

Thank you. I think I dip my willy into a bit of everything really. I'm always expanding etc.

We both like Belle & Seb.

We're brilliant.

They're Smiths-esque.

EDIT: You do all that rating, and it's now on another page.

Yeah, they have a pretty big Smiths influence.
You REALLY need to get 36 Chambers I was hoping you were gonna say you had it but forgot to rate it but it seems not :'(

I heard it once, but it was back when I disrespected Hip-Hop massively. I've always been meaning to revisit it, on the list of things to do.

Also, everything else I said. if you like Joy Division you're gonna like 50% of other Post-Punk. Same with Cream and Psych.

Don't like Wire, don't like Talking Heads, didn't particularly like Echo & The Bunnymen.

I like Jesus & Mary Chain a lot. Do they count?!

Oh and I like The Cure a lot.

Talking Heads aren't Post-Punk.
Echo And The Bunnymen are ****e.
Wire are hard to get into, they were real growers for me.

1. How do you work that out, the label was practically invented for them
2. They piss over The Smiths
3. Really? most of their songs are under 2 mins long stuffed full of hooks and really catchy, if you don't like one you know another one will be along in next to no time.
I think they're one of the easiest bands you could get into.

Talking Heads are SO Post-Punk.
I thought they were good.
Useless to me then, if they're hard to get into.

Talking Heads are Art Punk/New Wave.
You just said you didn't?
Impatient.
Have you tried Josef K, I think you'd like Josef K, kinda a blend of Indie Pop and Post-Punk. Highly influental on most of the stuff you like.

Post-Punk as well.
Let me rephase - I thought they were meant to be good.

Talking Heads had a lot of sh*t going on. Still don't like it. Best Post-Punk bands that live up to Joy Division?

If Talking Heads aren't Post-Punk, Echo & Bunnymen are sh*te and Wire are hard to get into.

Who else have I heard... The Fall, the jury's still out.

New Order, strangely enough, I don't give a sh*t about them.

I think I heard Orange Juice and Adam & The Ants once, but I didn't listen for long to have a judgement.

Can't really think of many other (supposedly) epic Post-Punk bands.

Would it be safe to say that Art Punk turned into Post Punk after Punk entered it's Exploited/Anti Nowhere-League era?

Here's my call. The Art-Punk of Talking Heads (Who were only part of the CBGB's scene mainly by default. They were not really Punk of any kind, but they helped form part of the story anyways), along with PiL and Wire (esp. 154), helped pave the way to Post-Punk, and after most of the Class of '76 faded away, you could say that the first Post-Punk happened, taking the best of those bands along with it as part of it's major inspiration. So they could be called either in my book and still be correct, with Remain in Light being one of the first standout Post-Punk landmarks, possibly along with Wire's 154.

OctaneHugo 07-23-2010 09:23 PM

Talking Heads sort of took a sliver of post-punk and a sliver of a bunch of other stuff and threw it together

Updated to feature the prominent names from this forum at the moment. Based on my observations of their LastFm charts or RYM collections.

Urban: Likes a lot of great stuff despite the ridiculous amount of music I love that he hates, we disagree often. I also find his tastes to be very stereotypically British... much like everything else about him for the most part.

Jackhammer: Into a good portion of stuff I like. Does tend to make some really WTF statements though.

Paloma: She's quite abrasive about her tastes. I don't share her appreciation for bad pop music (NSYNC and Spice Girls? Really?) but she likes some excellent stuff especially in the punk department and she's made some great recommendations for me, for which she deserves special props.

Tore: Best taste on the forum besides my own? Yep.

Cunningstunt: Did this guy rip his tastes completely from NME or what? Yeah he likes some stuff I like but his taste is so incredibly generic.

Big3: Soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo boring and generic. Should be a Rolling Stone critic.

NumberNineDream: Not bad. She has a good appreciation for psychedelia which is great.

James: He certainly has everyoned out indied, something that should make him my biggest target for ridicule but he's a cool guy so I let it slide.

Anteater: My go to guy now when it comes to prog recommendations. Truly kickass taste.

Mojopunk: Oasis at number one? Boo to that I say. But he does like some great stuff beyond that.

Gunnels: Pretty good though he doesn't seem to be into a lot of stuff.

Khreek: Good, very similar to JD's.

Bulldog: Alright, stuff I like and stuff I don't.

OctaneHugo: Pretty good but still a massive turd of a poster.

LoathsomePete: Very very little compatability between the two of us, lots of stuff I haven't heard.

Awwsugar: I love you baby, but your tastes are too stereotypically girly for my taste. Sorry. :(

Except for Coheed, didn't know they had girl fans, and they call themselves proggers, pfft.

Loose Lips: Too much stuff I have never heard of in my life.

Trace: Too Pitchfork-ish for me but props for being a Gentle Giant fan.

Lateralus: Don't know much about her taste and I wish I did. I just know that she's a cute bass playing chick and I want one of those.

Fasho: Only into some stuff I'm aware of, some of it I like and some of it I don't so I can't formulate a real opinion of his taste other than "ehh".

Seltzer: Excellent taste, wish he was around more.

Jedey: Can't say, I can only listen to music made after the record player was invented.

Violent & Funky: Very 90s but props for being a fellow Incubus fan.

Adidasss: A combination of indie music I hate and indie music I haven't heard of.

Vanilla: Seems to like a lot of stuff indigenous to her NZ homeland, stuff I can't really comment on.

Kayleigh: I really need to get into more electronic stuff. I should hit her up for some recs.

Antonio: I still haven't really listened to that Clutch comp you sent me, sorry. :(

Rickenbacker: I dunno. Some stuff is legit but I notice that he's getting increasingly indie. This is a concern.

Freebase Dali: I have absolutely no idea what he likes.

Alfred: Way too scene for me.

RVCA: Blink 182 and Linkin Park? Mixed up with some great stuff though, QOTSA are awesome.

Tumor: Though I talk to her more than anyone else on MB I still need to learn more about her tastes, I just know it's quite alt rock.

Your musical compatibility with kingboobs is SUPER

So fuck yerself!

No, but you're right. I listen to some good sh*t, some average sh*t, and some bad sh*t. But there's no set genre, I'm not a connoisseur of any particular genre, even my favourite Indie/Alt-Rock, there's still a lot out there I haven't heard but I like fleeting from one genre to the other knowing there's still a load of stuff out there.

I wouldn't say NME music taste is justified at all.

BooBoo - Genesis, King Crimson, Yes, Pink Floyd, and countless other Prog-sh*t.

But you also listen to a lot of good stuff. Your music taste is ok.

Edit: You missed out Janszoon in that big list. Poor Janszoon. And Tumor listens to a load of noise pop/noise rock from the 80s and 90s I think.

CanwllCorfe 07-23-2010 11:55 PM

No one has spilled their guts bout me..

So I'm gonna spill mine.. once I'm back on a proper computer.

Needless to say, the man with the unpronounceable username is feeling quite left out. :( Maybe I'll start listening to punk and prog, that way I can pick fights too

I made someone's list, I feel so warm and fuzzy inside

But this is a PSA to everyone who actually looks at my LastFM charts: when I made my account back in March, it scrobbled all the plays in my iTunes library, which is essentially all of my playcounts since Freshman year of High School (4 years ago). You know, when it was OK to listen to bands like Linkin Park, Blink, and Weezer. I think my weekly charts show a much prettier picture, for the most part. Though I do still occasionally indulge in Sum 41 or Lostprophets.

TLDR: check back in 2 years

I think Rickenbacker and Stone Birds outindie me anyway.

Even though LastFm says our music compatibility is Very High boo boo plays the cyber bully card because I don't like Syd Barrett or The Electric Light Orchestra. With only 496 artist listed on LastFm boo boo is about ready to make the leap from beginner to an intermediate music fan.

My perception of your tastes is that you seem to follow mostly sub-genres of electronica that I am least familiar with. You always seem like you know your stuff though. :)

And I actually really like CanwllCorfe's taste as well. I know he's a huge electonica buff and immerses himself in DSBM and modern classical.

Gimme a break, I was a young girl in the late 90s, the Spice Girls were LIFE back then, and girls my age still war over NSync vs BSB (believe it), besides I would much rather be pining for Justin Timberlake than Justin ****ing Bieber
