If Radiohead counts, I guess Radiohead, though aren't they too successful to be hipster? Also Animal Collective and Grizzly Bear, I suppose. To be honest most of my music taste is fairly mainstream (Muse, Queens Of The Stone Age).

And I think people are forcing themselves to listen to it a bunch and like it due to the hype. I think this happens with a lot of albums. I may try an album a couple of times if it's supposed to be really good, but I won't keep forcing it if it's not doing much for me. Hype doesn't equal good.
i think it is a bit overhyped but i still think its a great/very good album. some of the songs are growers imo. my favorites from it are: two weeks, cheerleader, while you wait for the others, and ready, able

I know some hipsters who are so damn hardcore they hate most or all of the artists above.

Good music and an audience of more than 10 people is for arena rock corporate sellouts goddammit.
....find me a person that identifies themself as a hipster, then find me someone who made an argument even remotely like the last sentence and I'll willingly castrate myself.

I can find a thousand reasons to hate pitchforkmedia, just like I hate vice magazine.

Nah, they transcended that rule.

I like quite a few 'hipster' bands.

Radiohead
Neutral Milk Hotel
Wavves
The Flaming Lips
Deerhunter
Animal Collective
and Grizzly Bear

they are all great bands.

What the f?
I mean, good bands 'n whatnot, but what qualifies them as hipster bands? I'm confused....

I think you can tell a hipster from just a person who listens to obscure bands by just talking to them. If they get all pretentious and retarded because you've never heard of XYZ, they're a hipster. If they forward some random band's myspace to you and 12 other people, they are an overly-excited audiophile...

I love a ton of the bands mentioned on here.

I didn't see Guided by Voices mentioned, though Hipsters probably don't still listen to them.

The only reason I'm adding to this, though, is to thank you guys. I even signed up to do so.

I'm working on a web comic that I'm hoping to debut soon and I needed as many hipster bands as I could think of. When searching google, I was brought to this post and it was incredibly helpful.

Thanks again.
