Duke Of Slander 08-19-2009 05:16 PM

I do love me some Elvis Costello and Silver Apples.

The Gossip - Heavy Cross
Passion Pit - Little Secrets
La Roux - Bulletproof
The Bouncing Souls - Gone
The Rapture - First Gear
Death From Above 1979 - Romantic Rights
Animal Collective - Water Curses
Patrick Wolf - Bluebells
The Kills - Cheap and Cheerful
M83 - Kim & Jessie

At the moment the Gossip is one of my favourite bands.

SarahJayne 08-20-2009 02:01 AM

1) The Caesars - strawberry weed
2) Cabaret Voltaire - no escape (awesome seeds cover, haha)
3) Black Angels - you on the run
4) Berlin Express - die Russen kommen
5) Transvision Vamp - I want your love
6) The Mighty Lemon Drops - the other side of you
7) The Joneses - miss 714
8) Wire - fly in the ointment
9) Wallace Collection - daydream
10) David Bowie - hang on to yourself

These are all amazing, imo, but 'fly in the ointment' has been a consistent favorite of mine for 15 years, so it gets my vote for top pick. :afro:

Johnny Johnson & the Bandwagon - Honey Bee
Half Man Half Biscuit - Dead Men Don't Need Season Tickets
Tin Machine - You Belong In Rock 'n' Roll
John Lydon - Stump
The Cribs - Shoot the Poets
Johnny Ringo - Special Request
David Bowie - I Wish You Would
The Redskins - Take No Heroes
The Residents - The New Machine
Cranes - Beautiful Sadness

Yesssssssssssssssss!

Haha, they always have the best song titles. Carry on cremating, it's cliche to be cynical at Christmas, four skinny indie kids, Eno collaboration, 24 hour garage people, and my person fave - Styx gig (seen by my mates coming out of a). :yeah:

Don't forget Paintball's Coming Home, We Built This Village On a Trad Arr Song and Mr Cave's a Window Cleaner Now :D

Fantastic band. They don't get an awful lot of recognition around here unfortunately, so it's always good to come across another fan.

At the moment the Gossip is one of my favourite bands.

Never heard The Gossip, Patrick Wolf, The Kills, La Roux, or M83. Heard of a few, but never listened. Bouncing Souls are alright from what I've heard, and I like Animal Collective's recent album but I'm not sure about their older stuff. Limited experience. Oh and DFA 1979, good stuff I haven't played in a while.

Jefferson Airplane - D.C.B.A. -25
Art Zoyd - Deux Images de la Cite Imbecille - Scenes de Carnaval
Yo La Tango - Stockholm Syndrome
31Knots - Echo-Lexington
Flying Lotus - RobertaFlack (Mike Slott Reflunk)
Archers of Loaf - You and Me
Sonic Youth - Kissability
Spoon - Don't Buy the Realistic
Tera Melos - Melody 4
The Rolling Stones - Love in Vain

Hard to pick a favorite...none of them are tracks I love, but they are good with the exception of the Sonic Youth track which is meh. I'll go for the Stones, it's a pretty song.

I'm surprised they never had a bigger cult following with the punks out here. Trumpton Riots was kinda Pouge-ish, imo....

dollarsandcents 08-21-2009 03:52 AM

Good RS song, kudos for the Sonic Youth but like you say there's better songs out there. Flying Lotus is amazing, looks out of place on your list though! I've heard of Yo La Tengo but it's one of those bands I've never really tried out, seems I should, heard a lot of good things. Not heard of many others I'm afraid, or don't know the songs.

Jean Grae - Billy Killer
The Jam - Going Underground
Radiohead - National Anthem
Devin the Dude - Lil' Girl Gone
The Decemberists - Yankee Bayonet (I Will Be Home Then)
Phosphorescent - At Death, A Proclamation
Jeff Buckley - Everybody Here Wants You
Rodrigo y Gabriela - Satori
Madlib - Duel
Figurine - So Futuristic

A lot of things I haven't heard for a while, mixed bag. Some great, some not so. Obvious choice would Be National Anthem as favourite track, one of my favourite RH tracks, but I'm going to go a bit leftfield and say Jeff Buckley just because it's an incredibly sexy track.

Antonio 08-21-2009 05:53 AM

Radiohead, Jeff Buckley, and Rodrigo y Gabriela :thumb:

Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band-Hair Pie, Bake 1
Muddy Waters-Long Distance Call
Atmosphere-The Keys of Life vs. 15 Minutes of Fame
Frank Zappa – Son of Mr. Green Genes
Kanye West – I Wonder
Warren Zevon – Johnny Strikes Up the Band
Jeff Buckley – So Real
John Coltrane – Giant Steps
Dysrhythmia – And Just Go
Jethro Tull – Cheap Day Return

Charlemagne 08-21-2009 08:28 AM

I've heard of but have never listened to Captain Beefhart & His Magic Band, Atmosphere is great, Muddy Waters is classic, haven't listened to Frank Zappa enough to form an opinion, hate Kanye West and Jethro Tull. But overall it's a good list.

The Mountain Goats- Jeff Davis County Blues
Devendra Banhart- Insect Eyes
Dispatch- The General
The Music Tapes- Kolyada #2
Shearwater- Leviathan, Bound
Warren Zevon- Excitable Boy
Devendra Banhart- This Is The Way
Sufjan Stevens- Casimir Pulaski Day
Portastatic- Some Small History
A.A. Bondy- There's A Reason

Yeah Flying Lotus is out of place on that list, but then again it's shuffle. ;) Truthfully it's more the other stuff that's out of place compared to my typical listening habits.

Shame, I'd have had more in common with the Flying Lotus side of things! The wonders of shuffle.

You might like some of the other lists I've posted in this thread, then. Some were done on my 8GB iPod, which I keep loaded with the stuff I plan to listen to or keep in rotation. The last list was done on my home computer with a ton more music, so naturally some stuff I don't listen to much.

I have never heard of Cross Canadian Ragweed. I am checking them out on last.fm... Initial impression - not bad, but not something I would spend money on.

Ah, Neutral Milk Hotel. I JUST started listening to them, and was pretty darned impressed. Gin Blossoms, Third Eye Blind... And not a single Billy Joel track. It's like the shuffling was themed. Lol.

1. Franz Liszt - Fugue: Praludioum un Fuge Uber den Namen
2. Pipeline - Depeche Mode
3. This Must Be Heaven - Rick Astley
4. Naughty Naughty - Danger Danger

That was like the 80s themed shuffle. And that one wasn't hard at all. I love the Human League.

Ah nonsubmissivewife snuck in after I'd written my comments for Burning Down's list! :bringit: Alright so about your list: I'm sorry to say I hate Live, I did not like Pure Reason Revolution when I listened to their album The Dark Third, I don't like Flobots from what I've heard, I've never heard Transglobal Underground and couldn't tell much from the sample of that song (leaning towards good rather than bad), I don't like No Doubt and that song makes me want to break things, I used to listen to Muse but listening to a sample of thing song makes me glad I stopped, great song by Creedence Clearwater Revival even though I don't listen to them I know they're good, great Incubus song from their best album, respect for Queen but I don't know that song, and I don't know The Smalls, 30-second clip reveals radio-friendly post-grunge/alternative with some Tool influence in the vocals & music and while I'm a big fan of Tool I tend to stay away from the bands they have influenced.

Burning Airlines - Wheaton Calling
Alias & Tarsier - Ligaya
Hagfish - Moda
AmmonContact - Beautiful Flowers (Feat. Prince Po, Yusef Lateef & Dwight Trible)
Unwound - Summer Freeze
Tom Burbank - Gnats
The Dismemberment Plan - Pay for the Piano
Tim Koch - Attery Bop
Nine Inch Nails - 19 Ghosts III
Queens of the Stone Age - Avon

Tough call between Burning Airlines, QotSA, and Hagfish (brings back memories).

Alfred 08-23-2009 11:05 PM

I enjoy Queens Of The Stone age, Josh Homme is quite a character and he has great music to back up his attitude. NIN are all right. Never listened to the rest of it.

Propagandhi "Dear Coach's Corner"

Fleet Foxes "Your Protector"
Stretch Arm Strong "When All Else Fails"
The Bloody Hollies "Mona"
Fugazi "Margin Walker"
Descendents "Dry Spell"
Comeback Kid "Losing Patience"
Coheed & Cambria "Feathers"
Rush "The Twilight Zone"
L'Antietam "Dear Good Man"

my mp3 player, so not a lot of variety

+81 08-23-2009 11:15 PM

I haven't heard Stretch Arm Strong, The Bloody Hollies or L'Antietam but I enjoy all the rest. Highlight for me is Fugazi.

Fugazi - Walken's Syndrome
Tokyo Police Club - Box
The Moldy Peaches - Lucky Number Nine
Steel Pole Bathtub - Sister
Ladyhawk - S.T.H.D.

Propagandhi "Dear Coach's Corner"

Fleet Foxes "Your Protector"
Stretch Arm Strong "When All Else Fails"
The Bloody Hollies "Mona"
Fugazi "Margin Walker"
Descendents "Dry Spell"
Comeback Kid "Losing Patience"
Coheed & Cambria "Feathers"
Rush "The Twilight Zone"
L'Antietam "Dear Good Man"

my mp3 player, so not a lot of variety

I have only heard of half those bands. I will have to search out the other half and see how I like them.

EDIT: I posted at the same time as somebody else

I think with Fugazi their material is consistent enough (while not really repetitive) that you can start with any album. Perhaps start at the beginning with 13 Songs. My favorite albums are probably Repeater, The Argument and Red Medicine. But again, you can't really go wrong with anything.

Let me know if you want me to upload you an album.

Lol, I looked them up at last.fm and I apparantly have 27 plays in my library. They must be showing up on one or another pandora station or something, and I'm listening to them without really noticing who I'm listening to.

Based on your list and what I know of your taste, you'd probably enjoy Burning Airlines, The Dismemberment Plan, Unwound and Hagfish. The others were electronic acts.
