The 10 Song Shuffle

Not sure if this has been done on this forum, but anyway, couldn't be simpler.

1) Grab your iPod or preferred medium of playing music.

2) Put ALL of the said device onto shuffle/random (no missing out that embarrassing record).

3) List the first 10 songs that come up in order.

4) Highlight in bold your favourite of the selection.

5) Next person comments on your list to make it interactive and initiate banter/mocking of the above persons list. Comment on your favourite song from the list, simply state that you've never heard any of that junk or ridicule the fact that a 20+ male has a Britney Spears song on their iPod.

Anyway I'll start us off, enjoy!

:shycouch:

dollarsandcents 08-05-2009 05:18 AM

Radiohead - Pyramid Song
The Dø - Aha
Method Man - 4:20
Madlib - Full Figure Pockets (Pay Jay)
Sage Francis - Runaways
Onra & Quetzal - Ya Fohi (interlude)
Johnny Cash - Would You Lay WIth Me (In A Field Of Stone)
Sonic Youth - Star Power
Raphael Saadiq - Never Give You Up
Lush - Sunbathing

Easy choice for my favourite, don't think that playlist would play too smoothly.

anticipation 08-05-2009 09:10 AM

i've never heard anything by radiohead so i don't really have an opinion on your favorite, but as far as the rest it's a solid list.
the highlights being: johnny cash, method man, and madlib.

error by bygones
the experience of and by osceola
life was real. vital. important/bum guts by kidcrash
the final hour by MF DOOM
evil gypsy/solomon's theme by sleep
greyskull by la quiete
gas drawls by MF DOOM
potholderz by MF DOOM
blue note interlude by madlib
fantastic by slum village

wow.

Charlemagne 08-05-2009 09:15 AM

I like doing this, let's see what happens

The Avalanche- Sufjan Stevens
I Take All the Blame- Tegan and Sara
Can You Please Crawl Out Your Window?- The Hold Steady
I Ran (So Far Away)- Tegan and Sara
Tiger Mountain Peasant Song- Fleet Foxes
Neon Jesus- Crocodiles
Raid- Madvillain
No More Tears- Andrew Jackson Jihad
Two Headed Boy- Neutral Milk Hotel
No Other Way- Jack Johnson

That was a tough choice for my favorite, all these songs are great.

EDIT: The above person really seems to like MF DOOM, which is quite understandable, because he is a very skilled emcee. The rest of the stuff I haven't heard of.

Zer0 08-05-2009 09:31 AM

Black Flag - Police Story
The White Stripes - Ball And Biscuit
The Cure - Icing Sugar
Mudhoney - You Got It
Stiff Little Fingers - Bits Of Kids
Janes Addiction - Up The Beach
Tool - Parabol
The Cure - If Only Tonight We Could Sleep
Boards Of Canada - Beware The Friendly Stranger
Jefferson Airplane - Somebody To Love

Touch choice for my favourite but i went with this one. Slightly confusing song title but it's a cracking song

simplephysics 08-05-2009 09:36 AM

^ Not a bad list, I'm a big fan of Boards Of Canada & THS, can't say much for some of the other bands listed but I've heard them all before

Can U Keep A Secret - De La Soul
Unemployed Black Astronaut - Busdriver
Act one, Scene One - the Fall Of Troy
Yesterday's Feelings - the Used (ack)
Out At The Pictures - Hot Chip
Up Your Sleeve - We Were The States
Roses - The Magnetic Fields

Grotesque Head 08-05-2009 10:51 AM

Wet Tip Hen Ax (Aphex Twin)
To The End (Live In Budokan) (Blur)
The Downward Spiral (The Bottom) (NIN)

Szerencsetlen (Venetian Snares)
12 Ghosts II (NIN)
She's Lost Control (Joy Division)
End Of The Day (Beck)

+81 08-05-2009 11:27 AM

It's a medium list for me. Some of the artists I love: Aphex Twin, Joy Division (favorite song by them), Beck. Some I haven't heard any of much from. Some I just don't really care for. Venetian Snares is the only one I've heard absolutely nothing by.

Cutting Pink With Knives - St. Mark
Melvins - (star symbol)
Sweep the Leg Johnny - Early October
Ladytron - True Mathematics
Nine Mile - Sleeping Bag
Matty Pop Chart - Jason Dear

I think people are forgetting this part.

Fender 08-06-2009 03:08 AM

Black Crowes- Sometimes Salvation
The Cars- Moving stereo
AFI- The Prayer Position
RCHP- Fortune faded (live in Hyde Park)
ACDC- Rocker
Hendrix- Come Down Hard on Me
Slightly Stoopid- Basher
The Who- Happy Jack...lol
Bob Marley- Lively Up yourself
Los Lonely Boys- Velvet Sky

I picked the Los Lonely Boys song because I haven't heard Velvet Sky in a long time. I don't shuffle that much, I like listening to whole albums, but I do like how shuffle hits that song that you want to hear, but you didn't even know you wanted to hear it. That doesn't make sense. Oh well it's 2am.

Regarding Lucifer's list, to be honest I only know four of the bands listed, but Sly and the Family Stone is all I really need to know. :afro:

I hate lists with song titles before artists! :banghead: Just had to get that off my chest. I find them hard to read, as I don't instantly recognize song names but I do artist names.

------------------
anticipation's list: props for Built to Spill, haven't heard much from the rest so there's not much I can say, but I've been meaning to check out Volta do Mar. Seems like a respectful list though, I don't see anything that I know sucks.

------------------
My shuffle: I use an 8GB Nano so obviously it doesn't hold my entire collection or even everything on my home computer. I change things out on it regularly, but it's still a good representation of what I'm listening to.

Haram - Fever Sleep
Comus - The Bite
Mungolian Jet Set - When You're in Need (Is a Constant Thing in Change)
Hot Snakes - Audit in Progress
Gotye - Hearts a Mess
Spring - Golden Fleece
Tool - Rosetta Stoned
Eight Frozen Modules - Sexual Rapping
Quicksilver Messenger Service - Pride of Man
Clark - Totem Crackerjack

Tenacious D is about as funny as putting your own penis in a pencil sharpener. Eminem raps like a white guy. As for the rest I either haven't heard or is an inpecible artsit/group.

mr dave 08-07-2009 02:30 AM

all i know about AtD is the track they had on tony hawk 2 and they split to form the mars volta and... that other band.

so here's my list, i'm too old to have ADD so i'm gonna make a little comment for each tune.

Elis Regina - Bala Com Bala - never heard this track before, it's from a thievery corporation compilation of old school verve acts. most excellent old school bossa nova but i'm not sure i dig the reworking. having a cheesy keyboard instead of a real piano is disappointing.

RHCP - Walkin' On Down the Road - HELLS MOTHER-EFFING YES!!! old school chilis at their best. flea pulls off an amazing bass line that supports slovak's minimalist guitar parts on the track without ever sounding overpowering. i'll be pleasantly surprised if anything tops this track.

Stan Getz & Luis Bonfa - Ebony Samba - from the Jazz Samba Encore! album, i have yet to hear a melodic jazz album i prefer over this one. Maria Toledo's vocal's are subtle yet divine, never singing actual words but adding that certain special element to make this track great. although ultimately i prefer the alternate take.

The Beatles - Everybody's Got Something to Hide Except me and my Monkey. - i guess it would have been considered super trippy back in the day but quite frankly there are only a handful of beatles tunes that do it for me, this is not one of them.

Frank Zappa - RDNZL - i can always count of any randomizer to pull at least 1 Zappa tune i've never heard before. it's track 12 from something i don't know. it's like all those other Zappa instrumentals that starts with random jazzy sounding instrumentation that peaks for a noodly fuzzed out guitar solo, weird percussive break, then another busy out. really digging the fact that it goes to a piano solo for the last 3rd.

Mondo Generator - Open Up and Bleed for Me - while i do enjoy a fair amount of MG's stuff i find Oliveri to be a bit one dimensional in his songwriting his main theme seems to be 'WAAAHHHHH!!! look at how messed up I am'

The Pixies - Debaser - i know i 'should' like the pixies, a friend of mine hooked me up with their catalog, but ultimately, i think they're one of those 'time and place' bands and never really clicked for me. on the plus side, any time i hear them i automatically remember cruising around town in my friend's old '92 ford tempo about 10 years ago, and 'that' makes me happy.

Frank Zappa - He's so g.ay- one of those Zappa songs where he just talk / sings throughout the song, the 'straight' guy talking through the track annoys me, but it's nothing compared to the backing track.

Nirvana - Paper Cuts - another track that eluded my ears over the years. sounds like nirvana trying to do an alice in chains tune. interesting as an oddity but that's about it.

Nirvana - On a Plain - live in tokyo february 19, 1992. it's a by the numbers take on the album track, nothing really notable with this version.

-----

overall i was expecting the zappa double hit, didn't see the double nirvana coming at all, especially not back to back. either way RHCP for the biggest win of that list by a whole freaking lot.

Terrible Lizard 08-07-2009 02:39 AM

Antonio's shuffle: Seems decent, love the Mr. Bungle and classic RHCP track. Respect Clutch though I've only heard one album, respect the Minutemen though they haven't fully clicked with me, respect the Butthole Surfers even though I really only like Independent Worm Saloon (what came before is a bit too bizzare/acid for me and what came after was just ok), Korn has some decent stuff but I don't like them very much, and I don't know the rest.
