How can an album that's still being lauded over 40 years after it's original release not be considered a classic?

I like the notion that classic albums have to have brought something to the table and perhaps influence alot of folks all around them, thus creating new subgenres and in some cases completely new genres...

A classic album in my opinion, has mostly great material and very few weak moments... and very often, but not always, has many songs revolving around some sort of theme, sometimes quite loosely...

If someone in the band kills themselves it really helps in making the album stand the test of time.

I consider Tristania's Beyond the Veil a classic, even though post people would probably hate it... It is all a matter of taste

A classic album is an album that you pick up 10 to 20 years later, and upon playing it are still overwhelmed with emotion or your mind melts with the combination of certain beats that the album employs.

To be clear you do not have to feel the same emotion you felt when first playing it. The most classic example being Pink Floyd's The Wall
