Default Radio in your area

Do you guys have a few good stations that you can listen to, or none? Do you even listen to radio?

I found one today in the Nashville that plays all sorts of music that I really like, bringing up the number of good stations in the Nashville area to two.

There's almost nothing where I live. The only interesting one where I'm from is this weird station whose motto is "We like to keep you guessing." They play the most random music I've ever heard, from celtic folk to early countries to obscure rock from the 70's and 80's...Sometimes it's really cool to listen to, other times I'll be driving and the thoughts going through my head are "What the **** am I listening to??"

Also, tuned to 89.5 now.

It really is cool on occasion. Generally it'll be stuff I don't know at all, or I'll get a rarer (or at least never-played-on-general-radio) tune from a band like The Jimi Hendrix Experience or Cream.

Actually, one thing that this station did for me was introduce me to this awesome band from the 80's called This Heat. These guys were seriously way ahead of their time; I remembered a line from one of the songs, googled it, and a bit of searching later I found it. Great band.

There's no good local ones for me, but it's not even a big deal anymore.

Sirius/XM is amazing...even if you have to pay for it...it's so worth it. Amazing variety and no commercials is freakin great.

Not to mention all the shows you can listen to online and get on torrent from around the world. Lots of times when I know I'm gonna be taking a decent drive...I'll just get the shows, throw em on a cd, and pop it in while I'm driving even. So many great shows out there. It's definitely my favorite way to find new music.

Most of the music stations play the generic pop where I live.
There's one new station that plays a little less pop and a little more rock, but still nothing to be excited about.

Progressive Radio for Long Island 92-9 / 96-9 'EHM

This station is not great by any means, but it plays decent music from time to time. Problem is, there's way to much (ugh) Dave Matthews and Sheryl Crow, and I think that their library is quite limited in size. Oh, and it's not progressive at all. Unfortunately they see to it that the listener is never challenged at all by the music they play. It gets dull very fast.

Beyond that there's a local college radio station, but we can't get a signal while driving because it's far away.

We have a good independent station here. They have different programs ranging from indie rock to electronic to rockabilly to roadhouse to jazz and I don't know what else...but for the majority of the workday M-F they play "popular" indie stuff, which can include both rock and electronic. They'll throw in some classics too, not just recent stuff.

KEXP 90.3 FM - where the music matters

But I never listen to it. I used to put it on in the car, because my ex's car only had a tape deck/radio, but now I don't have a car at all. We do have it on in the office most of the time though, but I have my headphones on with my own music.

I'd love to see your signature/links too, but the huge and obnoxious ones have caused me to block all signatures.
