Most narrow minded one genre fans are the worst by far and no specific band is culpable.

As a whole I find metaheads and Indie only fans annoying.

Some fanboys are fine as long as they take another point of view onboard but that rarely happens. I am a huge John Martyn fan but if someone doesn't like him it really doesn't bother me one bit. I have better things to worry about but narrow minded music fans DO annoy me. It's not a pre requisite to like everything under the sun but if you do listen to pretty much a single genre then you should at least be respectful of other peoples tastes and knowledge.

i don't find metal fans annoying at all. sure, i personally don't understand why you would only want to listen to the most brutal possible music all the time nonstop...but it would be wrong of me to knock them because a lot the metalheads i meet truly love the music they listen to and listen to a wide range of metal bands. who am i to knock what they obviously put time into exploring and have a deep connection to? i may not be able to relate in certain ways, but i understand.

in lieu of everyone mentioning tool, radiohead, muse, and other bands...i'll throw one out i don't think i have seen mentioned yet. metallica.

cause like...james hetfield is like..the fastest down picker on the planet man...ON THE PLANET

You don't find metal fans annoying but Metallica fans annoy you? not sure what you mean here. I come from a Metal background and after a few years found them to be so narrow minded beyond belief. I still listen to and love Metal but there is a ton of music out there that is just as heavy and intense if they gave it the time.

metallica only fans.

as far as metal as a genre only fans...the level to which they explore metal is comparable to what i would explore in other genres. like i said, i can't relate since i don't listen to that much metal...but i respect that they have found a genre of music that really intrigues them.

i do agree with you, though...i could never stick to just metal.

They are also defensive to the point of idiocy regarding what is 'metal' and not 'metal'. I got a lot of stick when I was younger because I dared to be into bands like Pink Floyd, Marillion and Tangerine Dream.

Perhaps it was a blessing in disguise though as it pushed me to listen to more genres and be comfortable with it.

maybe i hang out with friendly metalheads...my brother is in a deathmetal band and whenever i party with his friends i make it a point to mention how i am definitely not nearly as into metal as them...they generally leave me alone about it.

though they don't really annoy me, that doesn't mean i don't find it strange that they don't want to expand even a little bit...

typically, the metal folk I know are the nicest bunch of lads around. Whenever I see them(some of the closest ones play in one of sa's biggest death-metal band) and they are always top-class, although I do listen to a ****load of metal which would technically classify me as a metalhead, I listen to alot of other genres too and (I know it doesn't define a metalhead) but I don't wear the jeans, shoes and black t-shirt like most of them do, which makes me standout like a sore thumb at all times. Do they care? No.

I would say the majority of music nerds i know could be classified as a metalhead but they don't just stop there. They are into much more music than that. Personally i agree that alot of metalheads annoy me because i can have an intelligent discussion about music with alot of them until i metion a band that isnt metal.

Glad someone agrees. Every Pantera fan I've ever met has been a die hard, thick as a brick, greasy metal head with no prospects and nothing tangible or intelligent to say so instead just prats on and on about how ****ing amazing and special this band are.
Which, and not to go off onto a tangent rant here but let's face, it is untrue. I'm not saying this because I'm naive or narrow-minded but the only people after school is over who still listen to this band hit puberty and then forgot to let it end somewhere down the line.
Grow some ****ing brains and stop acting as if these blokes are anything special, they're a musical footnote in the grander scheme of things and that is all, they are not anything more than that.
