What is pretentious about taking no notice of this whatsoever? Surely we don't need a faceless award ceremony to suggest music that most of us abhor?

Yeah, same here. I'm not being pretentious I just have no interest in any of these award ceremonies and think they are so ridiculous. No artists who are actually worthy are ever included even in the nominations and I just find it all very silly and pointless. Blah blah blah I know you've heard it all before but it's true and it is how I feel.

I'm not going to bother bolding who I think should win because I don't think most of those artists should win or even be included.

I agree with you 100%. I think it's all just another way for the winners' heads to inflate even more. Or rather, anyone who is even nominated.

I saw the very beginning just now - I can't believe that Elton John performed with Lady Gaga. I mean, has he really stooped down to that level?

CanwllCorfe 01-31-2010 06:23 PM

I'd like to participate for fun but I only REALLY know Dave Matthews Band's music. At least I used to anyway.. they bring back good memories. I'm not familiar with much of anyone else.

TheBig3 01-31-2010 06:31 PM

I hope MGMT, and DMB pull it out.

Rickenbacker 01-31-2010 07:04 PM

Black Eyed Peas just performed...

That's more than I can take. Good night, Grammy's.

CanwllCorfe 01-31-2010 07:35 PM

DMB lost. That's the only category I was interested in.. oh well.

lol, thanks for checking in.

Feel free to tell me how breakfast goes.

someonecompletelyrandom 01-31-2010 07:51 PM

I hate that Forever ft. Drake, Kayne West, Lil Wayne and Eminem wasn't nominated. I'd like to see Relapse win, but I doubt it will.

I'm also pissed off that the Zac Brown Band won best new artist. It's the same Nashville style crap they've been shelling out since the late 90s.

Burning Down 01-31-2010 07:59 PM

That performance by Jamie Fox and T-Pain (or whatever his name is) was absolutely horrible...

I highlighted the reasons the performence was horrible.

Rickenbacker 01-31-2010 08:13 PM

Although in hindsight, Beyonce's performance with the riot police and the Alanis Morrissette cover was totally awesome. Girl can sing, that's for sure!

CanwllCorfe 01-31-2010 09:33 PM

Taylor Swift? Blech. Although I knew DMB wouldn't win so it was a lose lose anyway.. but still.

Mojo 02-01-2010 04:17 AM

Any ceremony where Beyonce's "Single Ladies" can win anything other than the biggest pile i've ever had the misfortune of hearing (slight exaggeration ill admit) isn't something i'll ever be interested in.

SATCHMO 02-01-2010 05:13 AM

I predicted the entire program would be a festering pile of dog shit.

...and it was.

TheBig3 02-01-2010 10:15 AM

Shocking that they gave out about 5000 Lifetime Achievement awards.

The music industry is comprised of such self-important douchebags.

I've never heard of them. Should I be proud?

Unfortunetly I have heard of the winners - The Zac Brown Band. I love country music. I hate boring, cringe-worthy Nashville music and beyond stupid-ass Southerners I don't see the appeal... and I certainly don't see how they stand out in a genre which, and I'm not just being ignorant here, really does sound the same band after awful band.

Well they seem to have a fairly strong jam-band presense which, whether you like it or not, makes them standout in a field of bland pop-rock that is Modern Country music.

True that. The worst thing about this years Grammys is that Skrillex won one. Jeezus.

The *only* good thing to come out of this years Grammys is Chick Corea,Stanley Clarke,Lenny White, Frank Gambale and Jean Luc-Ponty wining 2 Grammys on their album "Forever"

" "Forever" just won 2 Grammy Awards!

Best Improvised Jazz Solo for Chick ("500 Miles High") and Best Jazz Instrumental Album for Corea, Clarke & White! Here's Chick and Stanley just before the announcement ..."

You didn't mention the nominees/predictions for this category, though, FaSho, but this was the only positive thing this year.

Euronomus 02-13-2012 03:38 AM

this cracks me up: Who is Bon Iver. I don't particularly care for Bon Iver but come on, how can anyone, let alone tons of people not know of them at this point?

http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lz...xwe7o1_500.png

MoonlitSunshine 02-13-2012 06:34 AM

To be honest, I know of them but I have not knowingly ever heard anything by them...

So I tried to give my opinions on that list you posted, FaSho, but I realised having started at the bottom and then realised I should be going from the top and then subsequently realised that I had heard maybe five of the songs listed in the entire thing more than once and one of the albums that I really didn't have enough information to be commenting on anything whatsoever. If anyone wants to read my pointless ramblings before I got bored and stopped, they're in the spoiler :P

Spoiler for Ramblings Ahoy!:
Of that list:

Record of the year: I like Mumford & Sons, haven't heard the new album though. I've heard good things about Adele, but haven't knowingly heard any yet, I think skrillex is a dick with no talent (but I'm not a huge fan of anything with a Drop, it must be said), Katy Perry has released some decent Pop for modern standards but Firework just bored me, as I said I've never heard Bon Iver.

Album of the year: I really enjoyed Wasting Light. I think it's a solid record with some great songs, and I'd happily vote for it on any nomination it's given. That may well be because it's one of the only "new" albums I've heard this year :P

New Artist: ... Who are these people again? :D (should listen to the radio more)

Rap: I can't remember ever having listened to a "popular" rap album. Is it worth it? I can't say this is a genre I follow particularly. That said, I seem to have lost most connection to "new music", so hey, this isn't particularly a shock to me :P

Folk: I have heard of half the folk nominees, but haven't heard any of the nominations, and I'm presuming that by "Folk" they mean American, and are totally ignoring anything else.

FETCHER. 02-13-2012 08:29 AM

I've seen Bon Iver been thrown about here in conversations. Couldn't tell you what kind of music it is, or if he/she is a band/solo artist and I'm certainly not stupid.

TheBig3 02-13-2012 08:44 AM

Bon Iver - For Emma

Bon Iver - Skinny Love

Being at work currently (and on the phone) I can't listen to them, but if they suck or are something else, those titles are where you should start. Its better music for driving home after work when you're burned out. So if you're pumped up right now you may want to skip these.

FETCHER. 02-13-2012 08:52 AM

Thanks Brennan, luckily I'm shattered after staff training so I'll probably enjoy them :). Cheers!

Paedantic Basterd 02-13-2012 11:16 AM

I was really pleased to see Justin Vernon win, and I thought he made a lot of valid points in his speech.

It's always a bit strange to see artists like Bon Iver and Arcade Fire get public recognition for albums like Bon Iver and The Suburbs, when their best albums--modern CLASSIC albums--have been made years before. It's like mainstream music lives in a different universe.

FETCHER. 02-13-2012 12:04 PM

Was that black and yellow song up for a grammy? ****ing hell. That was one radio song I just could not listen to.

Never liked any of Bon Iver's stuff to be honest, but the point you make is correct. How do they even justify calling them "New" in any way?
