If you are making a point about us ending up on an SP discussion, then there really is no need.

How we ended up talking about it is still relevant to this thread, and I'm sure in a post or two we will be right back on track.

Seriously, we don't need someone pointing us to the "proper" thread every time stuff like this happens.

So... Siamese Dream is their magnum opus.

Now that that's settled lets get back on track!

You know music way back then was really great. Especially through the 60's-70's where psychedelic and progressive music was really taken hold and where many artists today built off of that and created some great and some bad music creating a ton of genres. I think that the music that has been released in the last 10 years - present has been overlooked by the people who claim that "music was so much better in the glorious days of Yore". I think there will be a whole new generation 40 - 50 years from now that will fully appreciate the music that this generation had to offer.

Yes...I agree. This is what I've been trying to get across.

I was a little disheartened that this thread took the obvious turn of "Today sucks, blah decade was way better...". I was hoping it would go more in the direction of "What did you like about this decade, let's discuss."

There is no need for this thread to be a modern music bashing fest.

I have to disagree with you because I'm not disagreeing with you for the sake of disagreement. The analogy of a person not knowing anything about music considering what hear hears first as "magical" was to be analogously represented in a person who has no understanding or knowledge of French picking up a French book and at the end of reading it would consider it "magical." They're more to consider in that analogy, it's not that comepletely different as you might think.

I'm not talking about what I am into, I notice from reading other people's opinion, so I'm trying to figure out objectively is there some truth to it, that music was better back then. How I see it, you can't have it both ways you can't say that all musical eras are equal then say people detest Grunge and you hate Emo. So all musical eras are equal or all musical eras are equal up until the time of Emo or Grunge or excluding them? What is the difference between a person who likes a specific era and it came and went with a person like you who dislike Emo, or someone who dislikes UK Punk, or dislikes Queen. That is the flip side of the coin. One likes something then but not now, and the other likes things now but not then.

btw most of the people (musicians) involved in Grunge grew up in the 70's/80's, I really don't know if the majority of that generation liked Grunge, but it was enough people to push it into charts and into the mainstream somewhat. That musical era came and went but it did effect the Post Grunge and Alternative Rock that followed.

Obviously, I didn't mean this applies to every human. For all we know, he could hate music in general. I also didn't feel the need to go into specifics about his musical journey, which I would assume would involve more discovery than just popping on the radio. Once he found the music he likes, he would find it magical, new, and totally original. Then, guess what? He wants a different band. Maybe something similar, maybe something totally different. After exhausting all his options on modern music, where to go? The past.
Well I wish you got more involve with specifics about that in other post, maybe we could advoided this whole conversation.

Nothing's wrong with Synths, and you are right about The Game and I agree with you opinion too.

Well, I really didn't think anyone was going to pick apart what I post line for line. I'm not exactly sure how what you are responding with is disproving anything I was saying, either.

Maybe you are not fully understanding my point, which is all I can figure since you can't take my posts on as a whole.

Well I created it as a kind of containment unit for those conversations so this really is the best place for it.

Lets create a thread of bands that we all think might influence bands to come say 20-30 yrs from now...current bands we all might think would do that. Id love to read...

not being a prick, but I would not have any idea but would be open to listening....
