They shouldn't be so damn lazy and judge a band on one album only. Urban is quite right (even though I like cheesy Whitesnake), their first 4 albums had some of the best Blues Rock going.

Perhaps people should gain more knowledge before they slag off a band as it's all too easy to judge a band by one album

Okay, agreed, Aerosmith is a better example for what I was trying to say. It will now be known the "Aerosmith Effect".

I know, random list, but still, the 80's were an important period to look at if you want to see where our music is at today, the alt-rock revolution, the beginnings of indie rock, the continued evolution of rap, punk and pop (whether for the better or worse is your call), just don't be bashing the 80's
I think you misunderstood my point there (and it's been a long time but I feel a need to clarify). What I was saying was that a lot of the music that got popular in the 80s was complete ****, but a lot of those bands are now forgotten. It's the truly good music, for the most part, that seems to get remembered in the future. Because really, a lot of the people listening to the crappy new stuff that's on the radio and all will move on to new songs in a year or two. Only the best will really make it. It's the same in every decade, there's tons of ****ty music that gets popular, but it won't be what we're talking about in 25 years. It'll be the artists that really stand out.

What does everyone talk about when 80's music is brought up? "Oh my god, I can't believe that was popular" "A guilty pleasure" etc.

Default 80s music

Well its been over 25 years since the 80s and there are alot of good bands & artist that I could name from that era, I do agree that alot of the music that was cool back in the day (80s) now sounds something like the soundtrack off the movie 'scarface', out of date & cheesy, but at the same time the 80s would be a fun era of music to review, the list is just to long for me to name all the good bands from that decade that I personally liked.

right, but that goes without saying.

to get back on topic. I would say about 75% of the music from today will still be talked about in 25 years which is unfortunate because we are living in one of the absolute worst times for music. I would take the 80's over the 00's any day of the week.

60's > 70's >>>>> 90's > 80's >>>>>>>>>>>>> '00's

'course we have little idea what the '10's will bring

how do you figure Nickelback will gain more fans? they don't have youth appeal and all the old people who are going to buy their garbage already do.

has 3 Doors Down actually done anything to top Kryptonite? that came out what 10 years ago?

bland and generic for the win?

I havent heard any rumors about Nickelback breaking up any time soon, so that tells me that they may stay around for a long period of time producing even more albums to come, but who knows? Are you sure for a fact that Nickelback doesnt have any fans with our youth of the nations? (only old people like them?)
(Statement) "and all the old people who are going to buy their garbage already do". I dont mean to insult you sir, but I dont where you are going with this statement. As for 3 doors down, I get the feeling that you have never really listened to them very much. Let me try to make a little better point, for what it is worth, (I mean who am I to say). 3 doors down has written alot of ballads/easy listening singles that are very well done in my opinion. And Nickelback has done the exact same thing with they're songwriting, I would think that songs such as ballads that touch the heart by saying more about Love & emotions will survive easy. so in my opinion these type of songs are better remembered than alot of the heavy stuff, Who knows! these bands could stay together & make albums toghether for the next 25 years or more, or they may splinter off to other bands, We can debate more further on this subject if you wish my Brother, Rock On!
