That's not very open-minded of you, Jackhammer.

Why can't pop punk exist? It's just pop at a quick pace to three chord guitar and sometimes it sounds GREAT...

EDIT: I'll call it fast-pop or aggressive-pop if you'd like?

If they called it something else, then maybe...but the fact they put the punk label on such whiney unskilled crap makes punk look horrible. Punk means something totally different than what those bands did to it.

LOL, isn't all punk "whiny, un-skilled crap"? That's like punk by definition...

I've always had a problem with pop punk because it's a contradiction in terms and for the most part, it sounds fucking terrible. Although Blink are a guilty pleasure. Dude Ranch.

I categorize all of these as pop punk, and they all have at least one album I absolutely love:

Alkaline Trio
Green Day
blink 182
The Offspring
Lagwagon
Screeching Weasel

BTW Jackhammer, I don't see how you can hate on pop punk but then turn around and post a nu metal song in another thread...

I don't take Nu Metal seriously and generally the whole scene sucks.Punk is a genre that has gained respect and changed the whole musical spectrum so when bands produce commercial 3 min ditties I find it hard to take seriously. Most people hate Nu Metal anyhow.

When people say Metal is this:

I will answer with this:

and when people say this is Punk:

I answer with this:

No comparison really.

I had to comment on the Nu-Metal piece of this post. While I agree with you, I don't think its entirely fair to paint the whole genre the same. Its comparable to thrash in 1985. I think Kerry King said

Quote:
"the issue was Thrash blew up over night, and you had 100 thrash bands by 1989 and 98 of them sucked."
Fairly the same with nu-metal except we have ~200 and 4 good ones. And for what its worth, Linkin Park is the absolute worst of the worst. There have been few corporate shills larger and more obvious than Linkin Park.
