Sure the first time with Townsend it was because he was pissed off at an amp for blowing up on him. It got the band a lot of attention though so he kept doing it and the crowds kept getting bigger.

At first I didn't care for this photo much, ribbons, but thinking about it, ND looking like a secret agent in his own family home is actually quite appropriate, given his sense of alienation.

Here's a photo of Judy Collins and Stephen Stills, enjoying a fleeting, private moment. Although we don't know the joke, thanks to the camera we can share to some extent a moment that has become less private, less fleeting....
