For me it was kinda the reverse. I was into stuff like My Bloody Valentine, Sonic Youth and Pavement before I got into a lot of classic rock stuff like Sabbath, Heep, Purple, Tull, Cooper, etc. And before I caught the prog fever.
Today because of all the different styles of music I have acquired over the years I just go back and forth in different phases and I just listen to different things at random all the time.

I don't know about other people, but I still listen to a lot of music from the 60's and 70's like Doors, Pink Floyd, Hendrix, psychedelic pop, and I especially like those hard rock, garage, proto-punk bands like Stooges, MC5 etc. It's just that the Zeppelin kind of classic rock lost its appeal for me. I guess punk changed me forever.
Anyway, in Serbia you had to dig deeper to hear something else cause everybody was listening to that kind of classic rock and Zeppelin are still the most popular band. You would be very hip here, boo boo. :)
