Bands you like that people tend to hate

Pretty simple really.

The Eagles
Emerson, Lake and Palmer (granted they really went to crap after Brain Salad Surgery)
Pantera
Heart (well their first two albums anyway)
Boston (well their first album anyway)

Bands I like that people on this forum tend to hate:

Nirvana
U2 (up until after AB)
Guns N Roses (up until Izzy left)
Pearl Jam
Soundgarden
Alice in Chains
RATM
AC/DC
Muse (Origin and Absolution anyway)

Janszoon 06-22-2010 04:48 AM

Haha, I like the idea for this thread.

Talk about an eclectic list.

And finally after a very long search, I find another Eagles fan. Who isn't in his 60s anyway. :D

Haha, well it's also a mixed bag of how into the various artist I am. Billy Idol and Jesus Jones are ones I'm a huge fan of and own all their albums for example. Enya and Chumbawamba I only listen to in passing. I think Andrew WK's first album is frigging fantastic from start to finish, but don't really like anything else by him.

I can't say I listen to them very often but I do like them a lot. In fact, thinking about it I realize I don't actually have any of their albums but my dad listened to them a lot when I was growing up and I have a real soft spot for them because of that. I should probably get some of their catalogue, Hotel California at the very least.

boo boo 06-22-2010 05:06 AM

Well I'm not very into The Eagles but they were a solid band with a pretty good run of albums in the 70s, and they were all talented singers, songwriters and musicians. And Hotel California still has a special place in my heart.

gunnels 06-22-2010 05:30 AM

*Clears throat*
My Chemical Romance
Fall Out Boy
Lady Gaga
Panic at the Disco
AFI

Enya
Journey
Europe
Guns N' Roses
DragonForce

James 06-22-2010 09:04 AM

The Eagles for me to, and a lot of other bands from the California scene.

Ilistentomusic 06-22-2010 09:11 AM

When I was a kid in the 70s and 80s I was all about AC/DC all the time 24/7. While they were popular, especially after Back in Black, they were kind of a niche band. Other kids were mostly listening to top 40 or popular rock bands like the Eagles or Bruce Springsteen or what have you. I was kind of looked down on for being such a big AC/DC head. The mainstream didn't respect them.

Now, 20-30 years later, even though I don't pay nearly as much attention to AC/DC, I do feel somewhat vindicated in the back of my mind to see how widely accepted they are. And the broad appeal that they have. Their music is used for all kinds of mainstream commercials, at sporting events, etc. etc. etc. They are one of the biggest, timeless rock icons around.

If I could go back in time, now I could tell all those people who gave me the business for listening to AC/DC all the time way back when:

"Ha ha I guess I wasn't so crazy after all!"

I enjoy "Believe". I was really into it when it first came out, and though I haven't listened to it for years I will always keep it on my ipod. It has some memories attached to it. After a night of partying and ending up over the toilet, I was joyfully singing along to "Prayer" in between heaves. Memories...

Unpopular musical opinions thread - "I like Guns N Roses"? Meh, I'll bite.

I don't think people on this forum hate Nirvana or Muse, and I think there are far too many grunge fans that adore Soundgarden and Alice In Chains.. I've never noticed hate for them.

But I like AC/DC, good fun rock 'n roll. GNR first album was good but I wouldn't listen to it these days.. errr, I've never really thought I listen to anyone that most people would hate.. Certainly never noticed any bands that I like that others don't.

TheCunningStunt 06-22-2010 11:15 AM

Brand New! They could be a band that people might dislike? I love me some Brand New though :D

I think Zooropa's a fairly decent album (Daddy's Gonna Pay For Your Crashed Car's a really good song), but otherwise I fall into line when it comes to hating these guys.

What! No! I've never seen dislike for them here. I would have noticed, they're my favorite group.

@duga: I was going to respond until I realized I don't really know what to say to that. haaaaaa...

dankrsta 06-22-2010 11:16 AM

I really liked U2 in the 80's and I still have a soft spot for their music from that period.

Insane Guest 06-22-2010 11:18 AM

Foo Fighters
Blink 182
Cheap Trick
Placebo
Coheed & Cambria

A mix between this forum and in real life.

LoathsomePete 06-22-2010 11:47 AM

For some reason there tends to be a general animosity towards the Barenaked Ladies which I've never been able to understand. Honestly out of all the poppy mainstream acts they are one of the best, especially when you compare them to the likes of Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber who stagnate the airwaves. Most people only know them for their singles, but if you actually take a chance and listen to a full album, you might be pleasantly surprised by what you hear.

Stone Birds 06-22-2010 12:37 PM

U2 not the band in general but it seems all the hate is for bono

They have Pop Punk roots and are very emo, I think they're great though but I could see why people may dislike them. I've never noticed any hate for them on here, nor have I seen much love..

Brand New anyone?

clutnuckle 06-22-2010 12:55 PM

I think Deja Entendu is great but other than that they've never impressed me. Could never say I hate them, though. Very nostalgic, though I'd hesitate to defend their greatness as a whole.

This is a difficult question to answer, as usually people haven't shown their outward hatred, just general disliking. I'm going to have to think, but I probably just haven't visited enough threads along yet.

TheCunningStunt 06-22-2010 01:00 PM

Deja Entendu and The Devil and God are Raging Inside Me are great albums. I can see why people would dislike them but I myself think Lacey is a great lyricist and they're a decent band.

Stone Birds 06-22-2010 01:06 PM

Wolfmother, they are amazing until the guy tries to sing out of his range

Kate Bush cover http://www.growery.org/forums/images...s/facepalm.gif

i'm not talking about that song so the face palm is unnecessary

people don't know this but i actually like hard rock but only certain songs

That's one song I've seen where his vocals were just a massive facepalm. I had to turn it off. I don't mind Wolfmother's first album but they aren't very good.. they're just.. alright.

Stone Birds 06-22-2010 01:23 PM

this is the one i listen to the most i'm in love with the percussion, and the vocals are almost catchy

I'ma go with Air Supply.
And a little MCR, lmao

sidewinder 06-22-2010 02:28 PM

Not too many that I would say people hate, but I guess every band has it's fair share of haters.

...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead
The Shins
Coheed & Cambria (don't love them anymore, but still like, and they have plenty of haters)
Lagwagon
Marcy Playground
Criteria
Lansing-Dreiden

Dr.Seussicide 06-22-2010 02:29 PM

Never really seen Lagwagon hate. I actually like 'em

What's wrong with these bands? I like all of them besides Lagwagon and Criteria...and that's really just because I never listened to them. AYWKUBTTOD (god damn even abbreviating their name is long) are freaking awesome.
