I would post about Wavves in a thread like "bands you hate that other people tend to love," but I would probably guess about 95% of people would just hate my taste in music in general. I can't think of one particular band or artist though...Cage? Ingrid Michaelson?

We have super compatibility. Does that mean people hate my taste too? :O

Air 06-23-2010 12:02 PM

Also...

City and Colour
The Faint
Ghostland Observatory
K-Os (if he counts)
Underoath

I'm pretty sure I'm safe with the rest of my music.

Not necessarily...it's just that while our tastes might be internet forum popular, the large majority of people you see on the street and ask, "hey do you like Tullycraft?" or whatever will probably be like WTF?

Dude, you can't defend Dookie one post and then dismiss Smash--they came out the same year...

I can, as Dookie an infinitely better album. Plus Green Day were one of the first few bands I got into. American Idiot 2004/2005..

So it's partly sentimental reasons, but I do think Dookie is a great record. Same can't be said for Smash I'm afraid.

Why not? Smash is great. It received unanimous critical acclaim and at the time was the highest selling independent release ever...

I just remember it being a bit crap. If you're gonna bother doing Pop-Punk, do a Dude Ranch or Dookie. :D

No please don't.
If you're gonna bother doing Pop-Punk, do a Trashed or At The Club.

How about do a Dookie, Dude Ranch, Trashed, or Smash? They're all great...

I only listened to Trashed the once.. I never felt the need to bother with it again, I knew it was meant to be a pretty good Pop-Punk record. But I'm just not really into that kind of stuff. I wouldn't say Dookie is totally Pop Punk, even though there's elements of it there I don't think it's totally Pop Punk. Dude Ranch is Blink's best album along side their S/T. I want Blink to release a new album, I'm really excited and I don't know why.. I've not listened to them in months.

ICP used to be good, this an example.

that's because the 2nd single to the album (Self-Esteem) used the same riff as Smells Like Teen Spirit.

No, it's because of 'Come Out And Play.'

Smash kicks Dookies ass any day. And overall:

The Offspring > Green Day

It's not even close.

Holy shit! I've never noticed how similar they are. 'Self Esteem' still has the better bass line though... :D

no. it's because Self-Esteem has the riff to SltS. Come out and Play got them noticed, Self-Esteem got them huge, most people didn't notice they were getting played until way later.

spot on about Smash being WAY better than Dookie though.

@Paloma: Did you not read the quoted part of my post? Or the parentheses?

@thread: The Offspring are pretty great, and Smash is pretty great. So there.

The Doors
I get a lot of crap for liking this band. None of my friends like them I can't speak for the forum though.
Radiohead
I only have one friend who likes this band and we always have to make a valid case on why there so awesome.
Guns N' Roses
I've had an on and off relationship with guns. I've learned to respect there earlier stuff though. I favor there earlier work over there newer stuff mainly because the new guns has none of it's original members besides the keyboardist. From my understanding a lot of people on here hate them.
Nirvana
I was once obsessed with this band like no other and still enjoy them. A lot of people don't like them though I've seen it on this forum and through my interactions with people at school

boo boo 06-23-2010 11:10 PM

OMG. I completely forgot about the one band I REALLY like that people REALLY hate.

I remember every time I used to search for Demons and Wizards albums this fucker used to come up, lol

RVCA 06-23-2010 11:12 PM

They all look ultra-gay in that pic, aside from the mofo on the right who looks like he's going to gouge my eyes out with a candlestick.

boo boo 06-23-2010 11:13 PM

But seriously. Those guys have made some of the best driving albums ever.

They're underrated on this forum too.

The Doors are a hard band to say is either overrated or underrated though, they're like Nirvana in that it goes both ways, a lot of people love them and a lot of people hate them, truly one of the most polarizing rock bands.

Another controversial one is Red Hot Chili Peppers, they have their devoted fanbase and their even more devoted haters.

James Chance and the Contortions.

Groove Armada and Fields of the Nephilim are hated? :(

My list is pretty boring - I'm sure there are some I'm forgetting.

The Eagles
Robbie Williams
Coldplay
Alice in Chains
Neil Diamond
Elton John

I totally forgot about these guys. I used to love them when I was in high school, along with Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin. But when I started getting into some very different kinds of music, I just couldn't bring myself to hear them anymore. Of those three, only Zeppelin I can still listen here and there. Funny how our tastes can change so much.

boo boo 06-24-2010 12:06 PM

It seems a lot of people start off getting into these kinds of classic rock bands and then later they get into the more hip indie stuff.

For me it was kinda the reverse. I was into stuff like My Bloody Valentine, Sonic Youth and Pavement before I got into a lot of classic rock stuff like Sabbath, Heep, Purple, Tull, Cooper, etc. And before I caught the prog fever.

Today because of all the different styles of music I have acquired over the years I just go back and forth in different phases and I just listen to different things at random all the time.

It's quite an accomplishment to have an outstandingly weak Evanescence song.

Yeah that's another band I forgot to mention, the Gab era is well liked enough, but I'm an avid defender of the Phil era at least until Invisible Touch, which marks the point where Genesis became indistinguishable from Phil's solo work, which I'm not a fan of. With the exception of this one, which sums up his solo career pretty well.
