they literally caused the resurface of garage rock that we're seeing today.

Soundgardener 03-01-2005 03:28 PM

I'm a fan of a lot of their stuff...

"Dead Leaves On The Dirty Ground"
"Fell In Love With A Girl"
"Seven Nation Army"
"The Hardest Button To Button"
"Expecting"

:)

The White Stripes

Which of The White Stripes' CDs do you like best? Pick as many as you want.

Ensemble 03-13-2005 10:47 PM

I messed up. You can only pick one.

Sneer 03-17-2005 02:13 PM

well, judging by "favourite CD", id imagine only one vote is suitable. ive gone with elephant. i love all of them, but for me elephant has just that bit more class to it. de stijl is definetly second. followed by white blood cells.

Soundgardener 03-17-2005 02:32 PM

I'd say White Blood Sells then Elephant in second...

Sneer 03-17-2005 02:35 PM

its hard to choose.

Anarchy doll 03-17-2005 06:43 PM

I say Dejistil....very blues and old style rock! I love that song Apple Blossom, I sing it to my son all the time

Ensemble 03-17-2005 11:00 PM

Cute!

White Stripes

They just released "Blue Orchid" by The White Stripes on iTunes from their forthcoming disc. Good god this rules.

If you hear it let me know what you think. For those who thought Jacks voice was messed up to beging with, this must drive them nuts.

Soundgardener 04-18-2005 03:05 PM

I liked it... They are definately keeping their signature sound, but it's also new and fresh. If that even makes any sense...

Sneer 04-18-2005 03:10 PM

where can i hear this? so its from their forthcoming album? i crave a listen.

Sneer 04-18-2005 03:21 PM

just heard it, really good. cant wait for get behind me satan.

DreamTheaterGodly 04-19-2005 09:19 AM

I think the band is incredibly basic, and I don't see why they have so much hype. Some one explain this to me.

Sneer 04-19-2005 09:24 AM

for two people they make one hell of a noise. the white stripes concept has never been seen before, they are completely original, theres been nothing like them before or after. jack whites a brilliant guitar player in my opinion and meg well, simplicities her strength. simplicity isnt everybodies cup of tea, but they play music in its rawest, most unglamorous way and its class.

Well for someone with the name "dreamtheaterisgodly" the premise might be out of your reach. You can imagine the white stripes as a cultural backlash, as punk might have been to the prog-rock of the 70's. Everyone has so much extra going on, that the stripes went the opposite way and kept it as simple as possible without it being garbage.

Their second album is called De stjil (i may have spelt that wrong) after the dutch painters movement of using just three colors, shapes, paterns, whathaveyou, to create paintings. Tihs is basically the premise of the band, which has strayed slightly with Jack's solos but their minimalist style remains resolute.

Meg's drumming isn't supposed to be complex...at all. Its a beat, something you can occationally dance to, something to hold time, or just have a beat there, to make it more rock. Its thumb, I can't explain it, but there is no place for a Portnay solo in the white stripes, it wouldn't be right.

Complexity does not equal hype. Complexity is not always good music. Im trying to argue scientifically a subjective opinion, so its an impossible task, but I hope im pushing you toward where im trying to go. The stripes are primal, they are what rock is, think Kiss, think Ac/Dc. Think simple. Keep it simple stupid, keep it striped.

Sneer 04-19-2005 03:31 PM

have i mentioned how cool blue orchid is yet?

marko1892 04-20-2005 01:45 AM

Some of us like our music stripped down to it`s basics. I happen to enjoy music in it`s most basic form. You don`t need to drown everything in extended guitar solos & lavish production.

All you need is a guitar & some life experince , thats how the blues started after all & that was the cornerstone rock music was built on. Just because we have much better technology now doesn`t mean the music being made on it is better.

The White Stripes

who likes em?

blackTshirt 05-02-2005 04:08 AM

i've recently started to listen to them.. i didn't like them 2 months ago.. but now i do :)

ArtistInTheAmbulance 05-02-2005 04:09 AM

I dont. They irritate me too much to enjoy listening to them... But then Ive been told that I havent heard the best of their stuff, so Im not sure.

pastor of muppets 05-02-2005 04:11 AM

yeh i like some of their songs but i can understand why someone mightnt....

Sneer 05-02-2005 06:19 AM

one of my favourite bands for a long time. love all of their albums. please dont ask me to justify my opinion, ive done it too many times on this subject.

pastor of muppets 05-02-2005 06:49 AM

mmm fair enough...

Anarchy doll 05-02-2005 08:52 AM

they were good when they first started out but now they are beginning to get stale...

theman78370 05-02-2005 09:24 AM

ehh, i would have to say No to the white stripes. their last single annoyed the hell out of me.

rock_on_dude 05-02-2005 09:28 AM

i like them kinda.

Urban Hat€monger ? 05-27-2005 06:20 PM

That New White Stripes Single

I finally heard it today.

Dunno if it`s me missing something but I think it`s crap.

They`re capable of so much better than that.

I`ll still get the album though.

adidasss 05-27-2005 06:37 PM

urbaaaaaaaan, stelaaaaaaaaaa.....STEEELAAAAAAAAAAA!!!! ( it's 2:40 am )

adidasss 05-27-2005 07:14 PM

but back on topic...the single is allright, not their best work but still kicks ass...

ish 05-28-2005 03:00 AM

I've only heard one song off it and I didn't really like what I heard but that might just be my opinion

coffeeshop 05-28-2005 04:32 AM

I don't really like The White Stripes but that is pure crap.

Sneer 05-28-2005 07:34 AM

i happen to really like the song. but each to their own.

TheBig3 05-28-2005 08:02 AM

I don't know man, I can agree that he should have busted out more distortion but that song rocks. I'd say a little more than...what, 95% of the radio?

Everyone bitched about Hootie and the blowfish until we got broadsided with boybands. Don't forget how good we have it.

Sneer 06-06-2005 07:37 AM

White Stripes- Get behind me satan.

only my first listen, but i cant help thinking critics who've given this album 5/5 stars are being slightly influenced by the stripes reputation. im a bit underwhelmed by it actually. theres not much of the searing guitars, pounding drums and pacy melodies- just a lot of piano, mandolin, tambourine and pretty vocals. i understand the need to develop and be diverse- but to me on this first listen- the stripes should stick to what made them the hottest property in rock.
overall- 2/3 out of 5.

Sneer 06-06-2005 07:50 AM

lol ok ive decided theres 5 good songs on the album. blue orchid, forever for her (is over for me), little ghost, instinct blues and red rain.

TheBig3 06-06-2005 11:26 AM

How the hell did you get the album? I thought it comes out tomorrow?
