meh, LedZepStu lives in England...maybe it comes out at a different time to you, unless you live in Boston in the UK....anyhoo i've heard blue orchid, and i rather like it.
|
ive yet to hear the album but i've heard blue orchid and agree its pretty good so im looking forward to it and even if its rubbish there might still be a picture of the lovely meg on the front
|
Based on Blue Orchid I was gonna give it a listen... Ive never been a huge fan, but if the new albums gonna be similar to this kind of thing then it should be good... Whether Ill have the money to pay for it with all these albums coming out at the mo is a different story.

To say he looks weird on the cover is an understatement. I think the peak was hit and we are now in decline. This is not their weakest album yet, but it is hardly their strongest effort. I'd agree with 2.5/5.
P.s, yea she is fit. |

jack white........hmmmm....isnt he the one that told people that the chick in his band (his ex wife!!) was his sister?
*pukes* |
whats your point?
|
nothing. jack white is just disturbing. thats all.
|
Why? Cuase he said Meg was his sister? That disturbs you?
|
i dont know. it just doesnt seem right, or normal for that matter, to tell people that your ex wife is your sister. its just a little strange
|
Blue Orchid owns my soul.

i think blue orchid is really catchy
|
^Incredible catchy. It was in my head the entire hour and a quarter of my last exam, it drove me crazy.
Still good though :) |
dead leaves is the only white stripes song that ever enters my mind. Im not a big fan though, and dont really have alot of their music to go by.

GBMS Impression
This is not a review, nor an attack on anyone who posted an aforementioned opinion, this is just my impression.
First of all, Blue Orchid is a left over from Elephant and is the most out of place track on the album. If you are buying the CD because you think its all like this, it is not. That being said I really like this album. It was said before that this was their weakest effort. I see this as a change in sound, and not nessicerily a step in the wrong direction. While this is all Stripes, i do see a bit of a Beck influence here and while I can't explain that entirely, you can see him singing some of these songs (forever for her, As ugly as I seem) but I really like this album and it reminds me up De Stijl. If you read any similiar reviews that I did that said they used alot of roots influence, well I feel this is the case. The traditional last track is still in rare form, "I'm Lonely" sits right up next to southern can, and Its true that we love one another. I think rolling stone said that Jack White is a one man AC/DC and I can see this alot in Blue Orchid and The Denial Twist. The latter garners that comparison on the fact that its a blues song built on chords, and the drums added combine to make a decidedly funky track that has no funk styling to it. All in all, this is a throw back to their ealier styling where it wasn't all rock and had a ton of diffrent styles mashed together. I say this album gets a 4 out of 5 rating. But thats probably biased because Im a white stripes fanatic (as noted in the name). |
i just listened through it on mp3.com and although there are slow, boring sorta country songs on it there's a few funky track's on it too, so i'm still expecting to have a lotta fun 5.7.
|
Is it just me or does jack white look alot like edward scissorhands and sigourney weavers offspring??
http://travelersdiagram.com/jack_white.jpg AMAZING! |
I don't see it other than the hair maybe, but to go back to what adidass said, The Denial Twist and Doorbell are funky badass songs. I love the denial twist.
|
OK - ive had the new album 4 a bit now an ive listend 2 it quite a lot ova the past week. :hphones:
Wen i first heard it, i thought there was lyk 2 gud songs on it an the othrs wer sh*te. Buuuuut now im startin 2 grow to the catchy tunes even if i stil don't get wat the hel they wer takin 2 come up with "The Nurse" - which i stil think is a poo track. :soapbox: The catchiness of My doorbell and othr such songs has made it bcum one of my fave albums at the mo. Stil Blue Orchid, instinct blues, take, take, take, as ugly as i seem and red rain are TUUUNNNNNEEEEES that return to the musical bliss that was thr last album. congrats.... Peace Out :band: MC Brent |
Bringing this sucker back from the dead...
I've been murdering my Elephant C.D these last few days. The whole lot is amazing. Especially In the Cold, Cold Night and I just don't know what to do with Myself. And ... ah who am I kidding the whole lot kicks arse. As soon as I've plateued with this cd I'll move onto Get Behind Me Satan. I saw them on our music channel the other night doing a concert of all their stuff. Meg as simple as she is, is one hell of a performer. I'd call it mesmerizing to watch her bang away to Seven Nation Army among others. As for Jack, he just owns...everything. I've heard people bag his vocals but they are top notch, in every song. Particularly Blue Orchid, I like the sound and the guitar kicks arse also. Also his vocals are wicked in You've Got Her In Your Pocket. A truely remarkable duo. |
I've recently 'discovered' The White Stripes. (I know, where the hell have I been!).
Never before has a band had such a sudden impact on me like this one has. Jack & Meg White play as if they are taking on the world. Merkaba...'Get Behind Me Satan'...what are you waiting for?? ;) |
Oh I already have it. Just...I've been as lost as you have!
So as soon as my Elediction wears off I'll be onto Mr Satan. Blue Orchid is going in my "Elation Thread", if I haven't mentioned it already. |

In my house the cds are played back to back. Im overdosing on White Stripes man! |

greatest gig i ever went to, every song blew me outta the water, especially the obvious crowd pleasers:seven nation army, i just don't know what to do with myself, the hardest button to button, ball and a biscuit and girl you have no faith in medicine.....plus a couple of funky tracks from get behind me satan made for an unforgetable night, made me remember why rock is the gratest form of sound ever produced by man....it's quite amazing how much more powerful their music sounds live...... |

**** you adidasss You didn't deserve to be there. ;) |
don't be jelous, i'm sure they'll come to your god forsaken country when they're 75 and doing a revival tour....;)
|
I hope so

**** you too, right-track:finger:
Lucky lucky man. You're all lucky. All I want to know is, why the hell they went to Croatia of all places:rolleyes: |
Haha...man I love this City! :)
EDIT: My 3 year old daughter sings 'My Doorbell' most times it rings. (useless information) |
Wicked:thumb:
Oh I just realised they are coming here next February, but they won't be playing much of a show I don't think. It's just for the Big Day Out, which is our crappy version of Ozzfest or something like that. Is there any news of another album on it's way? |

and merkaba, i'm at a loss as to why they actually played in my god forsaken country too, but they were by far the biggest/coolest band that ever performed here ( if you dont count the rolling stones, but that's geezer rock ), it was on their way to a big festival in serbia.....i guess they got suckerd into doing it.......i'm keeping my fingers crossed that queens of the stone age will do the cancelled concert at the begining of 2006..... |
I've seen them live on the Elephant tour and they were untouchable. To me the last 4 CD's they put out are probably some of the best complete CD's I've heard, although Blue Orchid doesn't really fit on GBMS, but if you look at it as the tail end of elephant, it fits just fine.
|
I loved both of their latest singles, and I have their album "White Elephant" I think that's its name. They're good to listen to when you're in a stupid, senseless mood.
|
They're good to listen to anytime. ****ing brilliant.
