White Stripes: like or don't like?
I have to say I started listening to White Stripes late and didn't really start enjoying their music until I bought Seven Nation Army. I really love this album (the good and the bad). Do you all like the White Stripes?
i cant stand them! i really can't!
i think they suck! i dont like the what i've heard anyway! |
Their not horrible I guess, but some of their music is pretty bad. Lol. :band:
Seven nation army itself is a sweet song...I don't know much stripes other than that.

Yeah Jacks got a good voice and all but they look pretty boring when they play live. Two pieces just isnt intersting to watch for their style. I do like the whole only red and white clothing theme though.
They seemed an exciting enough prospect when they came out but they have disapointed me with their albums.I simply cant listen to one all the way through with out getting bored.

when i first heard them i thort they were good. but working in a rock club in between bands i always have requests to play the white stripes, and due to the requests i have found myself sevearly overplaying them and im starting to hate them, i still think they are ok tho.
Yeah, I like them enough. I don't have any of their cds nor will I be getting them, but they aren't too bad. I really like the latest video.
the videos are good, particularly the lego one!, everythign else is bad, very very bad imho
I actually think what I love most about them that it's just the two of them and yet they seem to be able to make some pretty extraordinary music. I don't find them boring at all actually quite the opposite. For me they're a breath of fresh air.
Yeah, the fact that they only have two people is what makes them so good. And Meg knows she isn't any good on the drums...she learned them just to play with Jack. It's the simplicity involved with the music that makes it what it is, I think so.
i hate the whitestripes...always have and always will...a band must have at least some musical talent in my eyes to be good
stripes
Its not that they dont have musical talent. They intentionally keep their music simple. They are supporters of De Stijl, a dutch artistic movement, that trys to find beauty in simplicity, hence the 3 colour wardrobe(white red and black), and simple tunes. They consider themselves artists in the very way they live their lives. I personally enjoy their music. You may think that Seven Nation Army and Hardest Button to Button are simple, but the rest of the album (Elephant) is a quite a bit better.
Keep in mind when they started the band, Jack had been playing guitar for a number of years, but Meg had no previous drumming experience, I greatly respect that. Oh ya and to clear up the whole sister-wife thing. Jack and Meg have no relation to each other. They were married, and then divorced. There are documents out there that prove this. I dont know why they tell the media they are brother and sister, maybe to confuse us, or to create mystery. No one really knows. I hope I cleared up some Stripes myths. |
I dont like them because there is only two people in the band.:soapbox:
Hey there,
Yeah, The White Stripes are a very good band and stuff!

I don't care for them much. For one reason, Sarah(it is sarah right?) White is a horrible drummer, at least she dosen't do anything really good. And I can't stand Jack's voice. He is a great song writer though
Meg White... close.. well not really but its all good in the hood :)
white stripes? no tallent. hands down.
No talent, yet pockets full of money. They are happier than we are. That's all that matters.
how true banonbush, how true
Seven Nation Army and Bread and Biscuit are good but I don't know about the rest
Not quite.

Not Really
I really don't like them. And everytime I hear Seven Nation Army, it gets stuck in my head and drives me crazy.
:band: |
Once again, the White Stripes are a puposely simplified band. They dont have a bassist because well, they didnt think they needed one. They took music and stripped it down to its essential core. And under such extreme limitations, I believe, the best art is created.
The White Stripes are a very good band. |
Yeah El...True talent is shown through the three different drum beatd the chick plays, and the basic bar chords of Jack White...
The White Stripes are the one and only best rockers ever. I have all four of their CDs.
I don't care what you people say, Meg White is such a good drummer. |
I am truly shocked that people can call Thrice an incredible musical band and then have a go at Jack White's guitar playing. I'm at a loss for words.

ya, i have to agree with alejo, she's not terrible, but she definitely doesn't stand out as a particualrily talented drummer. Jack's a decent guitarist, but not great either. I liked them a few years ago, but after a while I started noticing that there's just something lacking, to be honest, I just think that they're two mediocre musicians who formed a band hoping to gain some recognition from the fact that a two person band is relatively original. They are pretty succesfull, and I give them credit for that, they've certainly played their cards right, but personally I don't find them especially talented at all.
i went through a phase where i liked them, i bought there album, but went off them kinda quickly. There ok....
For those who say Meg is a bad drummer, she didn't even set out to become a drummer. One day Jack was just playing guitar and she was just messing arounf with a beat and he decided he liked it that way. It is meant to be simple, not packed with tons of drum **** that overshadows the rest. For people who say they don't have talent, I just think you're crazy. Jack is an amzing guitarist if you've ever seen him live. He also taught himself. He also write good songs and is a great producer. He is unlike any other musician around now, and I don't just mean that musically.

You rock, shakemaker!
