I could create a compilation series with all the terrible covers of Venus In Furs I've heard over the years.

Other- Michael Jackson

He was an awesome pop singer, but think of all the bad bubblegum pop he inspired.

Honestly, I can't see this. There really isn't a whole lot of funk/soul inspired pop music, and certainly it isn't delivered the way he delivered.

Op Ivy should be one. So much **** Ska-Punk boils down to them. Blink 182 influenced some pretty bad Pop Punk.

If you're going to blame a band for pop punk at least have the balls to mention The Buzzcocks.

I'm not buying this for a minute. Most terrible ska punk sounds nothing like p ivy.

And I agree with Urban. Even though I'm a huge VU fan, they di influnce some of the worst music.

I'm not saying they sound like Op Ivy that's not what the threads for, but I always thought they were the first big Ska Punk group. I could be wrong.
And I do think Op Ivy are pretty good, just because they might have influenced some bad stuff doesn't mean they're bad.

Oh, I know that saying that Op Ivy was an influence on some terrible music isn't the same as saying they were bad. That would be a hard argument to make, but there was so much 2nd wave ska, 3rd wave ska, and punk and hardcore that I think was a greater influence. Op Ivy showed that the two styles could be blended. I think most tried to stay as far away from their sound as possible. The Clash was pretty influential toward ska punk too, as well as The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, and Murphy's Law.

I don't think you can blame the Buzzcocks.

I can't recall any really bad punk pop until The Descendents came along.

I blame them

Operation Ivy should not be one, at all. The ska influence was there way before them
