Listening to albums in their entirety...

It really bothers me when people say that they do this after just ONE listen. Makes me want to cry a little for their loss.

Save space? My old computer had very limited capacity so I got used to doing it. I have a new computer now though with loads of space so I should probably stop doing it, I'm sure I've missed out on loads of songs that would have grown on me.

I get really frustrated when I find out an album I download is missing even a 30 second filler track...I would go all OCD on that **** if I was missing huge chunks of music.

If I found out that the Blues for the Red Sun I downloaded was missing the album's closer, a 4-second track of the lead vocalist saying "....Yeah." I would immediately find a way to download it. In 320 or FLAC. No lie.

I'm very much an album person. There are exceptions but the majority of the time i choose an album to play and play it in its entirety. I often allow it to play any tracks i dont like as well, especially if they are vital to the overall feel of the record.

I judge bands on entire albums, not single tracks or compilations.

The issue I have with this is that some bands make very good singles but their albums are nothing particularly special. And while thinking they're strictly an OK band is fine, I think there needs to be at least a portion of the judging process on considering whether or not the band you're listening to is known for manufacturing good EPs or making steady albums.

There are exceptions. There are albums I have or bands I have listened to that I either like or at least have time for but strictly as a track band.

It just doesn't happen often.

For me, listening to an album all the way through is everything. If I think the album is worth it, I get in my car and drive around to various record shops to find the album. Case in Point: The last copy of Human by Death. Death is out of print. I spent 10 hours on the road finding it. Once I found it I loaded that baby up and listened to it in its entirety. Twice.

With downloading songs it's as easy as sitting down and pushing a series of interactive buttons- an bland activity, indeed. Plus, I guess the quality of music is better on album, vinyl, or tape. Generally, the songs aren't overlayed with lots of various "special" effects. I prefer the sound raw and uncut, especially in bands known for such sound.
