Janszoon likes Alien Sex Fiend. I remember this from that thread 25 albums...before something happens. That was a good read.

I don't se why Janszoon and Urban would be confused, as far as i'm aware they share basically no common artists. They're both mods and very funny mods too. But other than that idk.

Also why is this in General Music? |
This is me.
When I joined this forum, all I listened to was Green Day, I was in transition mode from purity crusader churchie to Hot Toppicore Poseur, and I was fresh out of the psych ward. Y'all taught me how to form coherent sentences and gave me decent taste. Almost everything I listen to now is because of youtube links posted on this forum. I remember somebody posted a Big Black song in some random General Music Thread and I just freaked out about it. I didn't know music like that existed. I decided that every other song I'd heard up to that point was crap. Quote:

Janszoon likes the Distillers, but doesn't think much of Coral Fang

James 2 dankrsta 2 Violent & Funky 1 Paloma 1 Everybody else 0 |
Janszoon must like Chic because he started the Chic thread which I just did a search for like half an hour ago.

MB has taught me not to give a damn about the opinions of others, musically or otherwise. This has not only helped me find a musical taste of my own and not one of my peers, but also helped me cope with the disapproving voices of everyday life. Basically, those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind (shamelessly stolen from the quote thread :D)
It's also taught me lots of British slang. And I never want to visit Manchester in fear of my life. Oh, and Janszoon likes Land of the Loops and Cornelius. :) |

by the time Weezer was coming up, grunge and alt-rock was already moving down. the mid 90s got really odd for a little while. everything from downtempo stuff like Air and Portishead were getting airplay next to big beats like the Chemical Brothers or the Propellorheads and between that every other rock band was coming out with an industrialized remix of a failed single. hearing what's ultimately a 'boohoo i'm still a lonely nerd' Pixies song they didn't write didn't do it for me then. still not really doing it for me now either. i can definitely understand the appeal for a lot of people but really, the Pixies wrote better songs and the Smashing Pumpkins wrote better music. having said that, your list did prompt me to digitally dust off an oldie Janszoon LOVES this band :p: |
Dude, there are certainly plenty of poor qualities to 311 (like some absolutely awful lyrics), but there are also plenty of redeeming qualities (like P-Nut and Sexton's snare) and man do they just fit my tastes. Great choice, by the way, Dave. Boo Boo would totally back us up on this.
This is my jam off of their self-titled (Grassroots is king, by the way): |
The most important thing I've learned since joining musicbanter is that one should never be ashamed of ones taste in music. This is something that Jackhammer drilled into my head (get it... drilled!) from the start and that idea really gave me confidence to pursue whatever things music-related I have in the past two+ years, and to base my opinions about music on what I really think/feel and not on what's socially acceptable. That being said, musicbanter also taught me to like better music.
PS- I heard Janzoon has Hanson on vinyl. |
...A jackhammer actually hammers.
|
Well there goes that joke.
