dunno if this was already mentioned but i think 311's version of the cure's "love song" is much better than the original

The Futureheads version of 'Hounds Of Love' by Kate Bush is amazing as far as covers go.

I don't think The White Stripes have ever done a bad cover either..

Doc.DGAF 05-02-2006 01:02 PM

System of A Down's cover of Black Sabbath's Snowblind is the only one I can think of. Lemme go smoke here in a minute and I'll come up with something.

I actually prefer Tainted Love by Marilyn Manson than Soft Cell.

Automatic 7 - Pretty In Pink
Unwritten Law - Goody Two Shoes

jr. 05-02-2006 07:51 PM

Manfred Mann's Earth Band's "Blinded By the Light" is better thatn Springsteen's original.

I like the Beatle's cover of "Rock and Roll Music" better than Chuck Berry's version.

Laugh if you want, but I have always liked Bananarama's cover of "Venus" better than the original, done by The Shocking Blue.

Laugh even harder, but The Bangles did a great cover of "Hazy Shade of Winter" back in the 80's. It kicked a$$. I forget the original artist, though. The Byrds, maybe? I'm not sure.

I'm sure there are more I could think of.

Check out a bootleg copy of The Dresden Doll's version, it's excellant imo. However, they've only performed it live a few times(at one show I was at, actually), so a bootleg copy is necessary.

And I have a little music-crush on Micheal Buble, and all the covers he perform are phenomenal.

Yes, better if you like..you know crap. Anberlin also covered love song, and Taking Back Sunday did a pretty nice acoustic cover of "Just Like Heaven" which i've been listening to a bit. Not better then the original though.

boo boo 05-02-2006 10:34 PM

The Cure version > 311 version.

IMO.

the Deftones cover of "Simple Man" that song is intense..

...of Epic Questions 05-05-2006 08:21 AM

"Paint it Black" by Gob. Don't mean to take anything away from The Stones, but it's a killer cover.

bassel 05-05-2006 09:00 AM

I don't know if there really is, usually the composer plays the song the best way because he feels it the most

WRONG!!!

right-track 05-05-2006 01:57 PM

The Beatles did a track on their first album 'Please, Please Me' called 'Baby It's You' (David-Williams-Bacharach). There's a soul version by The Sapphires currently showing on British TV.
It's the soundtrack to an Italian beer commercial (Pirroni ?) and it kicks the arse out of The Beatles version.

Frances 05-06-2006 12:28 AM

Half the Pin-ups album
I just love Bowie.

jramundson 05-06-2006 06:15 PM

I kind of like the Anthrax version of "Looking Down the Barrel of a Gun," but my favorite is "Paint It Black" by Gob.

DearJenny 05-06-2006 07:44 PM

Dresden Dolls- "Doorbell" (White Stripes Cover)

Scarling- "Creep" (Radiohead cover....which I only think is better because I dislike the lead singer of Radiohead's voice)

Urban Hat€monger ? 05-06-2006 08:52 PM
