Not a bad song to begin with, but I do like this cover more than the original. Well, maybe because I've listened to the original so many times and it's just a nice change.

it's not an easy song especiecaly striped back to the bones. i may be doing alice russell an injustice saying it's a cover, when infact she dose it in her own style.!

Metallica with Turn the Page.

anabundanceoftubes 10-26-2009 08:08 PM

I haven't actually heard it, so I can't attest to its quality. But someone told me Weezer did a good cover of Pokerface

Rickenbacker 10-26-2009 08:10 PM

that was me, hah.

Daughtry did a god-awful version acoustically. It will be good to see what Weezer can do to this track.

Call Me done by Cadaveria - absolutely breath taking and very originally done even though it stays true to the original song. Its heavy though and not for the squemish but at the same time has that classic iconic sound of the original.

TumorAttitude 12-01-2009 07:59 PM

There is something truly catharic about Rivers Cuomo saying "bluffing with my muffin".

Caleb48kb 12-02-2009 12:00 AM

Nickel Creek turned Brittney Speare's Toxic into a bluegrass, rock work. It was funny, and actually good.

Also John Mayer did an intro to No Such Thing with Dirty Pop, the guitar part was sick that I saw.

^John's rendition

This is pretty damn cool.

I think Bob Seger's version was actually better. Metallica's version is just another rock song. Seger's version sounds more dramatic and genuine.

Metallicas didn't sound genuine or dramatic? Actually...
Yeah I agree, I just prefer the Metallica version though. I always have.

p7byrd 12-06-2009 01:57 PM

I always thought STP's unplugged cover of David Bowie's "Andy Warhol" was far superior to the original, which was incoherent and unlistenable.

Honestly, I think the Metallica version is fuckin' clown shoes (no offense), and the original just sounds like whining from a guy that's living a dream. "Oh no. I have to tour around the world and make millions of dollars and bang strange women from all nationalities. Oh, poor me."

Other than that, Chris Cornell's cover of "Billie Jean" is rather impressive, the way he took a pop ballad and turned it into a smoky, bluesy and dark song which articulates the story a lot better.

Remedy 12-06-2009 09:39 PM

do remixes count?

Bleh, the original is awesome, the Goldfinger version is really lame and generic.

Cake- I will Survive
Faith no More- easy

scottsy 03-02-2010 07:47 PM

Gotta agree with ya there on Faith No More's cover of Easy... darn fine cover of a very otherwise middle of the road Commodores song...

Nine Black Poppies 03-02-2010 08:33 PM

By a band called Pomplamoose. They actually do a lot of these, this being my other favorite:

^Nice I like that Pomplamoose song, too. I posted it in the Beyonce thread. The girl in the video looks really scared, though.

Perhaps a bit middle of the road, but certainly not BAD. Aside from Patton's voice which I love, I don't think the song is different enough to make it that much better than the original. I like both.

tatertat 03-03-2010 05:33 PM

Ernie Halter's cover of "See You Again" Hannah Montana song... it sounds ridiculous but it's actually good.

scottsy 03-03-2010 06:59 PM

Prime example rightthere in the above post... any Hanna Montana song is ripe for a cover that VASTLY improves on thwe original....

TheRedChord616 03-04-2010 07:31 AM

The Devil Wears Prada - Still Fly
A Day To Remember - Since U Been Gone

Zer0 03-04-2010 04:35 PM

It's a really beautiful cover, Glen puts actual meaning and emotion into it.

RonaldSays 03-05-2010 06:23 AM

The Baseballs - Umbrella

Everytime I go to think of a cover it turns out that the original is still great, so it makes it incredibly hard to think of bad songs that people have covered...

Here are songs that I think are just as good as the original or improved:

- Johnny Cash - 'Hurt' (original by NIN)
- Pain Of Salvation - 'Yellow Raven' (original by The Scorpions)
- Transatlantic - 'The Return Of The Giant Hogweed' (original by Genesis)
- Marilyn Manson - 'Tainted Love' (original by Gloria Jones but done in the style of Soft Cells version)
- Pink - 'I Touch Myself' (original by The Divinyls)

* on a side note...
Manson seems to do a LOT of covers... and that Pink cover can be seen on her Funhouse DVD.

Ugh, Pink is awful.

DiSTANToblivion 03-18-2010 09:25 AM

Not always, she has her moments

EDIT: but she is way overplayed and over rated compared to everyone else...

JossB 03-18-2010 03:05 PM

I'm sorry, but I admit I love the Limp Bizkit cover of Faith, it's just so silly

I obviously like Lady Gaga. But I can appreciate good covers.
This isn't better, and Telephone wasn't a bad song.
In the cover, I feel like there's a LOT going on, and I don't know if that's good or just overwhelming.

I just find it curious that someone covered Hogweed by genesis.... very unlikely cover candidate... is there some way you could send me that cover, i am more than just a bit curious to see how it sounds..

So you are not implying the original versions of these songs are bad? Good, because if you're calling Genesis's Return of the Giant Hodweed a bad song I'd have to kick your head clean off your body.

Also, I like Cash but I think his cover of Hurt is overrated, I still prefer the original.
