Muzak...so bad it has to have it's own genre called elevator music. What else is there to do in an elevator but wait and be tortured by non-music. For once I would like to hear rock music as I try to get to the twentieth floor of a building.

LMFAO is some of the best elelctronic music I've ever heard and I also really ike rock, ya know, bands like Limp Bizkit and Nickelback. They're amazing.

Also, where can I find this list you made? I wanna bash something.

What is this new usage of "shank"? I'm familiar with it in regards to a piece of meat (f.ex "lamb shank") or as a weapon (f.ex. "prison shank"), however "shank" as an insult is foreign ground.

I read "skank", but "shank" is cool, whatever.

Yeah the person said "skank" not "shank". That's quite a popular insult over here for a lower-class bratty female.

I personally like P.O.D. quite a bit. Their music just makes me relax, not to mention I like their sound overall as well. Their new song Lost In Forever is very good, at least to me.

Any music that is so slow and so fast and noisy when it comes to rhythm and beat.

Rebecca Black. It's not even music.

Especially the cover versions. As a kid, I was a part of that generation of those who's parents would turn on the Easy Listening station in the car and get my mind assaulted by musical nightmares. Being a Beatles fan was not easy in those days.

Today, it's possible that some of those Elevator Music stations are that "Soft Rock" (Read: MOR with a better sounding genre name.) station that still is the insult to Music. I don't know about other countries, but it's possibly a regular happening in The States.

WTF does that even mean?

Holerbot6000 06-15-2012 09:34 PM

'Today's Modern Country' - the stuff where they take an old hackneyed phrase like 'It's 5 'Clock Somewhere' and turn it into a hackneyed, cookie cutter song. They churn this stuff out at an alarming rate and it's dreadfully popular, but that doesn't make it any less soul scouring to my ears. Country music has a rich tradition and has always had a pop side, but what they're doing now is just aural insecticide...

Rush is literally the worst prog band I've ever heard. I think I can name at least forty prog bands I enjoy more.

You can name forty prog bands you enjoy?

FRED HALE SR. 08-01-2012 01:47 PM

Rush is the only prog band I like besides YES. Also Limelight is a great song on a great record.

I always considered Pink Floyd a rock act. I enjoy Mars Volta and Genesis also if they are considered prog.

I far prefer Pink Floyd's psychedelic output, myself, but yeah I consider all three prog acts in some capacity.

So I guess your answer to my question would be "no" then?

Also, including krautrock bands is kind of cheating imo.

Because it isn't prog. I realize it's a related genre, but the areas in which it overlaps with prog are way far on the opposite edge of prog from where Rush resides and thus don't make for a reasonable comparison.

well i'd have to disagree. i think "prog" is just as broad a term as "metal" and "punk." yeah, sure, krautrock bands aren't really comparable to Rush, but a list of prog bands is gonna include some krautrock. same as naming 40 superior "metal" bands to Baroness, you could include things as diverse as Slayer and Darkthrone. i'd argue krautrock has the same motivations as prog, and the outcome is just as different from British and American progressive rock music as the conclusions made by Italo-prog and other such geographically separated subgenres, though i'd concede any day that it's far less guitar-driven.

strive4impact 08-01-2012 10:51 PM

I actually like Rush. Think it reminds me of hanging out with my older brother when we were younger.

moserw 08-04-2012 12:03 PM

Only read the first 5 pages and I've had a good laugh.

All I'm sayin' is that it's totally disingenuous to place Kraftwerk in the same category as Marillion. Sorry to interrupt the thread, I just had to say that.
On topic: I hate so much music, it's impossible for me to choose a worst so I can't contribute much here. Carry on.

Absolutely ****ing diabolical:

I am 41 with 2 teenage sons and I find this amongst the most bland, safe and uninspiring music I have ever heard from a band that is supposed to be on the cutting edge. Robbie Williams is positively hardcore compared to that.

You know why it's bland safe and uninspiring? They needed to do something safe because they experimented with their album before this and did some dubstep stuff.

Of course fans pissed a bit like they normally do with their temperamental selves so they have to make some safe music to earn money and make up for sales from their last album when they DID decide to experiment a bit.

Artists can always create the music they want to when their so tied up in contracts and rely so heavily on album sales.
