Q: What was the first instrument you attempted to learn?

SGR 05-23-2011 05:31 PM

A: Guitar

Q: Most important modern day rock band in your opinion?

A: I almost want to say Radiohead. They've still managed to maintain immense popularity over an extended period of time, and I can't even count the other modern rock / alternative / indie acts who cite them in their influences. Call them pretentious, overrated, or whatever, but their influence is undeniable, I'd say. Very important in their way.

Q: Which song (or album, or list of songs - whatever) do you feel best describes you, and why?

Scarlett O'Hara 05-23-2011 09:00 PM

The Cranberries - To The Faithful Departed. I describes me as it is this deep emotional upheaval of how times were good and now life is tough that we are older. So much destruction on this earth and in relationships can bring us down and make us depressed/angry. It's also describing a longing for a spiritual awaking to know that you are being looked after in your time of need.

My question: what song do you love that no matter how often you've listened to it you never tire of hearing it? And why?

A: The Deftones - Anniversary of an Uninteresting Event.
Why? Because of the sound of the drums.

Q: How many of your actual friends (IRL) actually share your taste in music to an extent worth remarking on?

A: I'd have to say the 90s. The whole grunge and punk thing that highlighted a raw, but clear sound really appealed to me. I can't say whether it was the music or my perspective of it, but for me, I reacted to that the most.

Q: What was the band or artist that got you into a particular genre, if any?

Q: What was the band or artist that got you into a particular genre, if any?

A:-

Power Metal - Iron Maiden
Rap/Hip-Hop - Mantronikk
Rock in general - Beatles
Chinese Pop - Teresa Teng
Jazz - Miles
Prog - Yes
Nu-Metal - Faith No More
Grunge - Soundgarden
Doom Metal - Sunn O)))
Japanese Rock - Glay
Japanese Pop - Shohjo-Tai
Country - Slim Whitman/Conway Twitty
Stoner - Queens of the Stone Age
House - Jamie Principle
Electronica - Chemical Brothers
Ambient - Aphex Twin/Future Sound of London
Dance-pop - Shannon
Gay disco - Village People/Donna Summer
non-Anglo/American pop - ABBA

Q: Is country really listened to only by redneck truck-drivin' men and women?

A: Not at all. I thought forever that maybe Bluegrass was a more Southern phenomenon, but even that was proved wrong. I have a friend who moved here from Manchester, UK who was going to move to the states regardless, and the main deciding factor on picking KY was that he wanted to live in the birthplace of Bluegrass and hear real Bluegrass. He loves it, and said that he knew quite a few people who enjoyed country or bluegrass in general.

Q: What song in particular are you tired of hearing covered because it's just too overdone?

A: "Margaritaville"

Howard the Duck 05-24-2011 06:57 AM

A: That the Beach Boys' Smile was never finished and released in 1967.

Q.: Is Led Zeppelin II the best hard rock album of ALL time?

That's not really a pet peeve.

Howard the Duck 05-24-2011 07:43 AM

then I have no idea, the fact that there needs to be a conductor for an orchestra?

A: Certainly not. Whatever Deep Purple made between 1970-72 beats it, for instance.

Q: If you had the chance of being in an established band, which would it be and what would you play?

SGR 05-24-2011 06:16 PM

A: Megadeth, if I had the talent anyway.

Q: The one album you NEVER get tired of hearing?

A: Yes.

Q: If you could change one thing in the history of rock, what would it be?

Howard the Duck 05-24-2011 08:32 PM

A: The Beatles never broke up.

Q.: What would Hendrix be playing now if he hadn't died? Would he have sold out and made an album like Santana's Supernatural?

Janszoon 05-24-2011 09:45 PM

A: Yes. I think he'd have become a Santana, or even worse, a Clapton.

Q: How do you feel about established rock bands playing with orchestras late in their careers?

A: The same way I feel about rape.

Q: What was bigger in the 90s? Grunge or Hip Hop?

SGR 05-25-2011 04:21 AM

A: Grunge

Q: What's your favorite "grunge" album? Or if you don't have one, your favorite album in general?

crash_override 05-25-2011 04:56 AM

A: Even If and Especially When by The Screaming Tress

Q: What is your favorite song about drug abuse?

s_k 05-25-2011 04:57 AM

A: Sublime - Pool Shark

Q: Have you ever been to a festival and, if yes, which one? :D

Scarlett O'Hara 05-25-2011 05:17 AM

Yes - Phat07 (drum and bass, roots, house), Big Day Out (ranged), Summerset (drum and bass, roots) and another one I have forgotten the name of (drum and bass, roots).

Best memory of childhood that is reminded by a song? What is the memory and what is the song? Why did they go together so well?

Howard the Duck 05-25-2011 05:20 AM

A: On stage dancing to "dance little lady dance" by Tina watsername..... because it was my first public performance.. what better than a disco hit to open my stage presence with?

Q: Do people really enjoy "difficult" music or they only say so for credibility's sakes?

s_k 05-25-2011 05:50 AM

A: I always get told by my parents they dislike my music because it's so depressive (which it isn't) and difficult (which it isn't). I can honestly say I like the music I listen to and that I often hear stuff here that's overly technical or overly complicated or overly dramatic or just 'strange' in general. I suppose the people here genuinely like this 'artsy' music, but it's not my piece of cake.

Q: Have you ever considered opening a music store? :)

DoctorSoft 05-25-2011 07:14 AM

A: No, those are like gone up here.

Q: Favorite song that includes accordian?

Howard the Duck 05-25-2011 07:21 AM

A. Any Cajun Zydeco, I guess.

Q. Why does the electric guitar sound so good?

djchameleon 05-25-2011 07:23 AM

A. It doesn't sound good alone, depends on the player and what pedals they are using to add effects to it.

Q. Do you share any songs with your parents that you both enjoy? If so name two.

Flume 05-25-2011 07:39 AM

A: God only Knows by the Beach Boys, and Hey Jude by the Beatles.

Q: Which is your favorite instrument?

Lisnaholic 05-25-2011 08:05 AM

A: The guitar; acoustic for it`s mellow, relaxing tone and electric for its range of expression and the way it can cut through the sound of other instruments.

Q: What was the last book you read about music/a musician ? What did you think of it ?
