I draw lines with my music in the regard that it has to have meaning for me. I need to see value in the words and the music to truly appreciate it. I like how you think. I hadn't posted on this thread thinking it was too negative. Couples of years back I would have said "RAP AND POP STINK!" but I've come to realise that if I didn't get into rap was mostly because as a middle class white girl with a Scandinavian background, the MTVesque genre of rap wasn't quite presenting realities I could associate with, I still don't listen to it, but it doesn't mean I can't appreciate its artistic merit. As for pop, I've managed to reduce my hatred of it according to individual vocalists who can't be bothered to learn an instrument, all sound the same and don't even write their own songs.

Albums like Illmatic and 36 Chambers are so damn good they can go really far to change any prejudices you may have due to more recent mainstream stuff. Just ask me and all my friends i've introduced those albums to who used to hate rap. They're really special albums that crossover on all music fans.
