The government were giving away vouchers for the digital converters up to the switch. They also extended the deadline a few times.

I have bunny ears and am able to receive a digital signal. I don't have cable, this is how I watch TV.

really? that's why they were giving out those black boxes a little while ago, maybe your tv is a bit newer and doesn't require it to be able to translate the digital from analog.

he might be rolling with an older tv.

Yes, it's a newer TV. That doesn't change the fact that I watch can watch TV for free via bunny ears or the fact that anyone with an older TV who simply used one of those government vouchers can do the same.

well that's the point I was making, maybe he didn't get the voucher for his older tv and it could be completely possible that he lives out in the boonies.

Some people that used to be able to get the channels before that lived out in the boonies couldn't get them once it switched over even with their newer tvs....they'd only get pbs and vaguely cbs but it wasn't strong

That's the thing with digital signals, you either get them or you don't. There's no inbetween where it comes in half-ass or blurry.
