I never knew that! Garage Inc. was the album with the old Irish folk song "Whiskey in the Jar". There's more about these guys than you think, isn't there?

their cover of "Whiskey in the Jar" is terrible, they're following Thin Lizzy's template, not the olde folk ballad

A lot of metal bands reference their influences and likes etc but Metallica seemed to have amazing taste regarding artists that inspired them and BOC was certainly one.

^^^If you look up the original version, almost everything is different. It's been covered by the Dubliners too, and slowly morphed into the metallica version. I doubt they've ever been to Ireland, TBH.
