Seriously? Hendrix changed music forever. He was one of the most innovative and creative guitarists ever. And is one of the most influential guitarists ever. He inspired so many people, including Buckethead. If Buckethead was asked this same question, I'm sure he would have plenty to say. The whole concept of shredding long solos practically started with Jimi. He was an innovator, he set new boundaries for rock music. He was also very talented for his time. Talented enough to earn the respect of great musicians like Miles Davis. As I mentioned earlier, Davis was so impressed with his improvisational ability that he compared it to the great John Coltrane.

So Jimi Hendrix was the John Coltrane of Rock Music? Doesn't make him some very innovative.

I'm not trying to bag on the guy, I just don't think he was the biggest thing...ever.

I think one of the collective conclusions we came to in this thread was that if he'd have lived longer, he'd have been able to become far more innovative.

Well maybe he wasn't THE biggest thing ever, but he certainly was one of the biggest and most influential guitarists ever. Don't think he was innovative? Just listen to his music and then listen to pre-hendrix rock n roll. He was very unique. Even his rhythm guitar playing was very unique. Just listen to "Little Wing" and try to find a recording of something before Hendrix that sounded like that.

I thought it was a fine discussion. I don't understand how people can't be against a given topic. Talk about why it doesn't work - fine - but that doesn't make it a bad discussion to have.
