I do get quite a few online, but there is a good record shop in Manchester City Center.

I'm a big fan of the Philadelphia Record Exchange. It's basically a house jam packed with records on both floors and the basement. It's the ideal place if you're the kind of person who enjoys spending hours digging through old vinyl, and I assume most people posting in this thread are that kind of person. The staff there is great too. I always remember the time I was in there pretty late in the evenng, thinking they were probably about to close so I walked up to the guys at the counter and asked if they needed close up soon. One of them held up his mostly-full bottle of beer and said, "nope".

Where you brought your first record or what former musician worked or was seen in the shop. You can leave comments on the forum or on the British Record Shop Archive.

I think I may be part of the "vinyl generation" but I never knew much about our "habitat," as I only purchased two or three records in my life, one being Olivia Newton John's "Totally Hot." I have no idea where.

I never ever buy music now (my high rolling music purchasing days are over), but I'm curious where I'd go in my community if I wished to find a record.

The only place I know about is the public library, because recently there was a book sale where records were also sold. I struck up a conversation with a woman who had purchased lots of records (old, of course). Turned out her husband sells them online.

The words Idiotic, attention seeking and creepy would be some of them, but it's not breaking any actual forum rules.

I think another word for s_k would be this one:

friendly! :D

Yes, yes, I know...it may be hard to remember the adjective that matches this rare online behavior. ;)

s_k has a great vinyl browsing location. I've seen it! And his whole house. Great place. :) If I were in his country, that's where I'd go to find records because his house should count as a browsing record emporium...and as a bonus, it has a cat!

Funny how 'different' instantly turns to 'creepy' and 'idiotic' here.
I'm definitely no attention seeker ;)
AND I answered his question!

Anyway, ontopic:
THIS is where I've bought most of my new records for the last 14 years.
The second hand ones are mainly from flea markets/bootsales and thrift stores/charity shops or whatever you call them :).

And I answered his question, haha :D.

First time I've ever seen someone title a single post, though. :D
Hadn't even noticed that. Boy he's calling me an idiot. I might have to turn him in with the forumcops or something...

Haha, stop being friendly or people might think you're creepy and/or an idiot. :).
Thank you Erica. That's really nice of you. Thanks, also from my cat :D.
If you're ever in the Netherlands (or Belgium, close anyway), you're more than welcome.

Janszoon 11-19-2011 02:04 PM

No love for mine? It's rough and run down, but that's Philly for you. It has a great selection.

s_k 11-19-2011 02:33 PM

Haha, yours is even better. Sorry, missed that out.
Love the roughness of it.

These are the guys that work there:

Jan & Bart

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...e/DSC00688.jpg
Rino

Rino is the one who introduces me to new music most of the time. Even though Jan's Taste is more like mine. Bart has an entirely different taste in music but he's a great guy in general. Gives me loads of coffee.
I usually get there on tuesdays and it happens to me quite often that I arrive at 1pm and leave at 7pm. The store closes at 5:30, but who gives a **** anyway :D
