Thanks Janszoon, I didn't add the score at the bottom, but I think you counted my vote in your score below... is that right?

I think we will continue the theme for a few more battles. I'm taking my turn for this one, but send in albums to battle for 4 tracks or less, I need suggestions, pretty please . Also, I plan on keeping the win limit to 5. If MB decideds an album is the best within the theme it's in, I think if has to earn that right and be vetted to a certain point.
--------------------------------------------------------------

After a few recounts to make sure no votes were missed, Program Music 1 pulls a quick, slick trick and licks Thick as a Brick, ending its win streak at 1. From yours truly, I offer up our first album with only one track from one of my favorite rap groups.

*sighs* well I guess TAAB will not be the first trincumbent of this theme. Quite unfortunate, for I voted twice for this composition.

On to the new war. Well, I'm kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place on this battle, but when objectively compared, these albums leave me stuck between a rock and a torture chamber (take this analogy from a non-masochistic point of view). Program Music I provides a soundscape to explore, a composition that resides in the vast complexities of its own development. Contrastingly, Untitled takes the beaten path among hip hop artists--even if it is quite experimental for the genre--and walks along the same manner of developing a song, only in a more prolonged manner. Untitled does serve as one of the better hip-hop pieces that I have yet to hear, but it does not hold a candle, nor wick, nor match to Program Music I.

So, since I prefer background music with interesting textures to that of (moderately) experimental hip hop, my vote shall go to Program Music I.

Program Music I - 1
Untitled - 0

Wow, I can't relate to this description of Untitled at all. In what way are ambient textural drones with the occasional plucking of a banjo the beaten among hip hop artists? If most of the hip hop you've heard is similar to this I'd love to get some recommendations from you!

Well, to be honest I was quite drunk on the first spin of Untitled, and I was a bit harsh in my review now that I've (soberly and in the midst a soft and nearly silent hangover) revisited the album, it does not pace the beaten path of most hip hop artists. What I think I meant to say--but who the hell knows, I was pretty smashed last night--was that Untitled has that general sameness of an ambience album, with an interesting hip hop twist. However, this twist does not resonate very well with me for I am not the biggest hip hop fan.

just got Untitled and heard it once

not properly digested and needs a second spin

i definitely do like it better than Absence atm

okay have heard it twice:-

Unntitled - well, i would say the "noise rock" doesn't disrupt his flow as much as "Absence", but this is just a composite of a few songs rather than a proper progression - the stuff from 8-10 mins is just inconsequential, it only picks up at 20 mins plus, and the 28 to 33 min mark is the best thing i've heard from rap, but sadly, the ten minutes or so before the spoken word comes in is so boring that i'm wondering when it'll end

Daisuke's still got the edge on composition

Program Music 1 - 2
Untitled - 0

Going to stick with Program Music here. I don't have much to say about Untitled, other than that I prefer Absence by a long shot.

I want more votes, for either side, but it's time to send Untitled to the farm upstate so he can run and play all day long. Mrd00d abides, and sends in a modern psychedelic album to take on 2-time winner Program Music 1.

Sticking with Program Music. Though the Egocentrics' album was solid psych rock, I can't say I find it as captivating or replayable as Program Music.
