Forgotten Quality Hits by Major Artists

I've had this idea in mind for months, of good-sounding hit songs (at least Top 40) by big artists that for some reason (probably overshadowing by other hits from the same album) have rarely been played since.

One example - "There's the Girl," by Heart, which was mentioned in another thread.

Please remind me of others :)

this is pretty vague, do you have a direction you want to go in? So a song needed to be in the Top 10 but it was later overshadowed?

I'm also confused with this thread. If they're considered to be quality songs, wouldn't they NOT be forgotten?

I always thought Get Off Of My Cloud by the Rolling Stones was overshadowed by the previously released Satisfaction.

"Get Off My Cloud" seems to be one, as I've never heard of it, but that song is way before my time.

Another dusty gem is "Save Me," by Fleetwood Mac. Maybe forgotten because it wasn't considered the "real" band lineup.

Also, there's "I'm Not the One," by The Cars. An old song remixed and released as the second single from a greatest hits album, apparently without a music video. Enough said.

I don't know if this qualifies, but Squeeze's "Pulling Mussels (From the Shell)" peaked at #44 in the UK (and didn't chart at all in the US) following earlier, higher-charting singles.

That and "Another Nail in My Heart" were two great singles from a band at the peak of their powers. Argy Bargy is the definitive Squeeze album but East Side Story the most creative.

I agree on all counts, Soldier. And now, since you've mentioned it, I have the super-catchy "Another Nail" stuck in my head. ;)
