I just remember when I first listened to The Smiths, Morrissey didn't come off to me as a very good sounding vocalist, but overtime I started to enjoy it more. To be honest, I don't really hear the instrumentation too much when I listen to The Smiths, I think it's mostly due to the fact that I just focus on his vocals from when I first listened to them, that's what I did to try and really get into them.

Just to be fair we should watch some of The Cure when they did Top of the Pops.

The 1981 performance of Primary was apparently before the show went neon and Smith was still trying to please the general public. The other two feature Robert Smith openly mocking the mimed performances (and cage dancers in The Walk!). Lovecats was done on the garish stage that lends itself more to Morrisseys weird dance moves.

I used to dig top of the pops when they would show em here in the states. Another great archive for outstanding videos and live videos was 120 Minutes. Heres a link for the archive site I use, its pretty damn awesome for those who don't already use it.

Probably my favorite show as a teenager.

Morrissey's vocals & Johnny Marr's guitar playing outstript Robert smith. I love the Cure and think that Smith writes better lyrics, but ultimately the Smiths have put out better material.
