I wouldn't trust anything you read in the NME. They once hailed a band called Brother as the saviours of guitar music, then dropped them like a bad smell when nobody agreed.

Both bands have their merits and I like them both, but Marr's guitar work is something else. Especially that riff on This Charming Man, I picked up a guitar just to learn that one day.

The Smiths are nothing more than 2nd hand Orange Juice riffs with clever lyrics.
And there are plenty of clever lyricists in the world, I don't know why Morrissey's so revered for it. He's no Nick Cave that's for sure.

I would say the Cure are by far the better band.

I can't even comprehend how much of a joke that is.

I found out about The Smiths from my oldest brother and I've been hooked to every album and song they did that is out Morrisey has such a unique and strong voice and that connects so well with the mood of their music.
This kind of reminds me of the whole "Who's better Beatles or Stones?..argument" , Who do you guys prefer /like most/listen to the most The Smiths or The Cure?
Very chalk and cheese imo. The Smiths music is about very down to earth things while The Cure's music is a lot more other worldly. Love them both but it's got to be The Smiths. Even though I don'tt really identify with much of it lyrically I much prefer Morrissey's voice. Plus we don't have the spectacle of The Smiths putting out dross like 4.13 dream and just generally hanging around long past their sell by date which The Cure are doing. Robert Smith just looks ridiculous now he's in his 50's and still wearing all that make up.

Oh, that makes sense. You're one of those people
I mostly listen to music for the lyrics, so that's probably why I prefer the Smiths.
Also I don't really like Robert Smith's voice, and I love love love love love x 9834939839983498349834 Morrissey's voice.

That's interesting. It took me almost two decades to get into the Smiths because I hated Morrissey's voice. Now I don't mind it but I do wish he'd tone it down a little sometimes still.

I always thought Morrisey had a beautiful voice but the reason why i prefer them over the cure is because their music is more happy..the cure has a few depressing songs..
