I'm late to this party but The Smoths is a vastly superior band and some of the best music to come out of the 80s. Actually it's some of the only music from the 80s I can listen too. My ears hate that decade.

Uhm anyways.

I like The Cure better musically and the Smiths better lyrically.

These are two of the few 80s bands I actually listen to every once in a while. Both are great, but Im gonna have to vote for The Cure just because I've listened to them more and am more familiar with their songs/albums. If the question was which band is better I'd probably have to go with The Smiths because Im pretty sure they had a bigger impact...
