I'm not entirely sure what you're talking about here.
Screamadelica was the most anticipated British rock album of the 1990s before it came out, as much as some people would want you to think it was Loveless.
Acid house/ Dance music & rock music were diametrically opposed before this came out, this album changed all that. It was critically acclaimed, it was publicly acclaimed and it transcended genres. So why exactly would you say it wasn't able to attract a broad audience?
It did just that, 1992 was the year of Screamadelica in any British music publication you could pick up.

Why wait that long? the albums by those bands came out 20 - 30 years ago already.
