Whether it is a Purple, a November, or a Kentucky one, rain always makes a good song.

Hey thanks ribbons!
That was only the first one: we did animals, eyes, colours, trains, family, spooky things (Halloween special), sunshine and numbers. Not sure what the next one will be. Open to suggestions...

Interesting theme which reminds me again that I should look at Trollheart`s much-praised journal !

It`s Raining In My Heart by Buddy Holly uses rain as a metaphor for sadness;a bit of a cliché these days, but quite effective nonetheless.

In A Rainy Day In June by The Kinks, the rain is the principal topic, creating a sense of menace in which "cherished things are perishing". It`s a great track.

In this song, Gordon Lightfoot uses rain as a kind of mood-enhancing detail to bring home the dreary experience of being the one left behind :-

* Supertramp: It's Raining Again (1982).

* Fleetwood Mac
: Dreams (1977).

Rain as a metaphor:

♫ "Thunder only happens when it's raining.
Players only love you when they're playing.
They say, women, they will come and they will go.
When the rain washes you clean, you'll know.
" ♫
