Michael Jackson.

Mackofficial 03-04-2013 01:17 PM

MJ all the way, no competition. I've never been a huge fan of Prince but MJs music is timeless, wich there were more like him today!

Even though I didn't vote for Prince, I wouldn't say Prince's music isn't timeless. I've personally just never given him a fair chance. I've never had a reason to.

FRED HALE SR. 03-04-2013 01:55 PM

I can't even take this poll seriously because it doesn't have Controversy listed for Prince. I also can't take it seriously because Michael Jackson has 1/5th of the talent that Prince does.

Electrophonic Tonic 03-04-2013 02:42 PM

I'll take Michael Jackson the entertainer and Prince the musician.

Goofle 03-04-2013 05:12 PM

So Prince then.

CrazyVegn 03-04-2013 06:29 PM

This is a joke right; Michael Jackson although I like both.

Necromancer 03-04-2013 06:57 PM

Prince sounded sophistacated more often than MJ did. Blood On The DanceFloor was the closest thing MJ had equal to Prince. (I like the video too)

I was thinking of listing that album but I wasn't sure if anyone else in this message board was familiar with it.

^ Soo true!
You simply can't compare them musically.
In the entertainment part I'd say they are pretty equal, although they are so different. Personally I prefer Prince's chaotic sexual dancemoves more than Michael's chronometric calculated synchronies. The only area that MJ wins in is the popularity, but that's not significant.

Cuthbert 03-05-2013 11:01 AM

I prefer Purple Rain to anything Michael Jackson made. Prince.

MJ is so overrated.

How is he overrated? He sings beautifully... If anything he's underrated or should I say his later career is?
Songs like these are what made me a fan in the first place..(I'm sure you haven't heard any of these gems but now is the perfect time to give them a listen.)

So you shouldn't be voting on this poll then... Prince's music is a lot better. MJ's got vocal ability and range on him and that's it, though I think his voice got a lot worse around Man in the Mirror-era (guessing it was all the surgeries).

Prince is a musical monster that is overlooked by so many ..It's a shame -_-
I actually love his outtakes more than the songs that makes most of his albums. I can't say the same for any other artist/band ..That dude lives and breathes music and you can tell by the finished/unfinished product.

He was just another pop star. I used to love him when I was a child but it's just straightforward pop music. The record sales don't mean anything to me. His unthreatening, catchy music left loads of space for people to be bedazzled by his weird personality and lifestyle.

He was good at what he did as is evident in the record sales but I do think he's overrated.

I think he's underrated...Sure he was popular but most people don't know anything before/after Thriller and Bad. His bizarre lifestyle overshadowed his musical and performing talents. When people mention Michael Jackson the first thing that comes to mind is all the child molestation scandals. :/

If you were to some way make a poll for everyone in the world to vote who they thought was the greatest musician ever I'd wager MJ would come out on top with the most votes.

He's widely regarded (in my opinion, wrongly) as one of the greatest musicians ever, so there's no way he's underrated. He has now achieved legendary status in death.

I know not much about Prince but what I have heard is more interesting than everything I've heard from MJ (Bad, Thriller, History, Dangerous and a few other bits.)

Goofle 03-05-2013 11:26 AM

Not sure why you keep making out as though people have no idea about certain albums in very popular artists discography.

Was gonna say something very similar, it's Michael Jackson, if you listen to music it's almost nailed on that you're familiar with his music.

It's not that people don't know them, It's because people heard them and thought they were awful.
Jacksons popularity was on the decline long before any sexual allegations.

OK, if you don't think he's over-rated, well that's a taste issue and I won't argue it even if I COMPLETELY disagree with it, but I never ever thought anyone could use the term "under-rated" to speak of MJ. It's like saying Coca-Cola is under-rated.

Sure he's well known but his music isn't appreciated as much as it should be.

MJ's music often was lyrically dark. Such as "Who is It?" and (something he didn't write but chose to sing) "Human Nature." I guess I'll vote for Michael, because those songs move me more than anything Prince has done.

Franco Pepe Kalle 03-07-2013 03:37 PM

It all depends on what you are talking. If you are speaking of talent, clearly Prince is better than Michael Jackson. I mean for good sake, Prince can play guitar and do it so well. He has more talent than Michael.

But it when to star, Michael easily destroys Prince. I mean I live in Minnesota and I think more people are aware of Michael than Prince though Prince was born in Minnesota. I mean this is the truth.

I think Prince and Michael Jackson are two great talents but star wise, Michael Jackson wins too easily.

Roku 03-07-2013 04:05 PM

I don't specifically like either of them, but Prince wins for me. Michael Jackson's music was never that good to me, but I can remember liking a few of Prince's songs.

Necromancer 03-07-2013 04:42 PM

As most already know, it doesnt really matter either way who is the best, or who is the most popular for instance. They are two different artist with two different approches toward their music, style, recording/studio, dance choregraphy .. and so on.

I agree with others here at MB, who have already suggested that MJs legacy lies with the Jackson 5, Barry Gordy, Quincy Jones.

If I wanted to listen to some MJ right now, it would be from his early days with Motown.

On the other hand, I wouldnt currently mind hearing Cream by Prince.

katsy 03-07-2013 04:45 PM

Prince.

He has more material and his best songs are just as good as MJs; he just has more. So I vote for Prince. But I LOVE MJ.

NEWGUY562 03-08-2013 05:08 PM

This is the best song prince ever sang..

Necromancer 03-08-2013 08:36 PM

I could tolerate listening to MJs Dirty Diana.

Goofle 03-09-2013 07:15 AM

Prince is apparently going all garage rock nowadays.

katsy 03-09-2013 09:01 AM

^^ Yeah, I saw that-- an all girl/ garage rock band.

"Dirty Diana" is a great song.

Not that I'm aware of. He does however, currently play with an all female band.

Did I miss something? Are we having a discussion on the fact that i typed 'all girl band'? OF ALL the things to nit pick about you choose this?

Did you note the "he plays with"?

Regardless, I appreciate your attempt to do whatever this may be, but I will just agree with you. You are right. How could he play with an all girl band since he is so clearly male? What an error I made. How nice of you to point this out.
