You're right but if you want to talk about longevity and top ten singles I can list a few artist and counter your argument. :p

I think they should have included Picasso, Leonardo da Vinci, Shakespeare, and maybe even Bach or Beethoven. Miles Davis at #88, just a tad ahead of Rick Nelson and a tad behind Eminem....interesting.

I'm sure you could, but that's not the point. She has a great voice, she made some great albums at a time when most black soul artists were still very much singles based and paved the way for those artists to concentrate on making great albums instead of singles in the years that followed.

I guess for me personally I look at it more as bands who dont deserve to be so high on the list. I think Nirvana being top 30 is ridiculous. I also think U2 being 22nd is way too high. Bruce Springsteen in the top 20 is a bad call also. And its not that I don't enjoy various music from all of them, I just find Rolling Stones top whatever list far too cookie cutter. I think Miles Davis being at 88 as someone mentioned is a travesty when you consider Nirvana was slotted in at 29.

I at least think Marvin Gaye deserves to take her spot..C'mon he released four back to back ground breaking soul albums that did well commercially and critically.. It's mostly one or the other..
I still haven't heard any R&B albums that topped these..

I find most of their lists do make a good outline, but its impossible to make a list like this. Just too many different views and tastes out there.

That's great but Aretha Franklin had a similar run of great albums, only hers started 4 or 5 years earlier. Hence my comment about her opening doors for more soul artists to concentrate more on albums than singles.

Are you serious? What's Goin On is one of the most influential albums of all time that happens to also be a Soul album. It's sad that you haven't heard it because you're missing out on a masterpiece.
