Do any of you agree with Rolling Stone's 100 Greatest Artists of all Time list?
I honestly think they screwed up a few times..
Pink Floyd at 51 ..C'mon WTF! 100 Greatest Artists: The Beatles | Rolling Stone |
I don't even have to read it to know I don't agree with it. In fact I won't. :)

Is this like the 50th thread about how bad the rolling stone magazine is?
|
Switch No. 38 with No. 46 and I agree with it completely.

If putting anal beads in polls can be a musicbanter tradition I see no reason why the bi-monthly 'Rolling Stone List' threads can't be.
Plus it gives people another good reason to shit on all the popular bands they hate. |

Lady Soul might be the best album by a female singer in the 60s.
I'm a kind of album guy too. |

Pink Floyd should be lower.
Can, King Crimson, Kraftwerk, Soft Machine, Neu! ........ All making much more interesting music than Pink Floyd ever did around that time. |

Too lazy to see what all that list consists of, but I disagree with anything super positive about the Beatles which has angered a lot of people. I don't hate them by any means, but don't care for their sound. Too happy (even their sad songs). Not enough bass, groove, smoothness, depth or production IMO. Sounds raw or live like a lot of Elvis' stuff probably because it was before a lot of technology. If I had my own list I would put Elvis probably in top 10 objectively bc I don't consider myself a fan of his but I recognize it IS / WAS good perhaps because he was accused of copying many unknown black artists in the day. In order to be objectively fair I would have to also include the Beatles bc I recognize hard work, creativity, and melodious talent there. A private list of mine would not include either, though.

Do you really think all those albums are listed for the same reason?
|
I have a hard time appreciating Bob Dylan as well (just got a 2nd glance @ that link and saw him there). If it wasn't for the harmonica @ the end of Don't Think Twice It's All Right I might love that song even despite his voice.

Who in the list did you feel deserved to be higher than they were placed? (It's obvious you know about music I just want to hear your opinion.) |
Rolling Stone's 100 Greatest Artists of All Time
I think they should have included Picasso, Leonardo da Vinci, Shakespeare, and maybe even Bach or Beethoven. Miles Davis at #88, just a tad ahead of Rick Nelson and a tad behind Eminem....interesting.

I still haven't heard any R&B albums that topped these.. http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lj...yibio1_500.jpg http://www.rollingstone.com/assets/i...41904dfc1a.jpg http://bluelineswork.files.wordpress...011/10/iwy.jpg http://img192.imageshack.us/img192/4...emydearfro.jpg |
I find most of their lists do make a good outline, but its impossible to make a list like this. Just too many different views and tastes out there.
