Default Boat Music

Heading out on the water on Sunday with friends, and my GF thought it would be nice to make a CD of music that has a kind of "Boating" theme to it. She emailed me this list:

1.I’m on a boat Mother ****er! - The Lonely Island
2.All Summer long - Kid Rock
3.Red Neck Yacht Club - Craig Morgan
4.Pretty Good at drinking Beer - Billy Currington
5.Red Solo Cup - Ugh!
6.Sitting on the dock of the bay - Otis Redding

These aren't my choices (other than The Lonely Island one), but what the hell. Anyone else got any suggestions?

Oh wait, I misunderstood: you meant GOOD songs?
Ah seriously I love that song; talk about relaxing laidback and just drift along. Still, whatever HUR HUR HUR floats yer boat! (I really have got to stop rolling on the floor laughing: I'm a bit old for that now and it's doing things to my back!)

These songs always remind me of sailing/boating and beaches and water in general.

Sail On Sailor - The Beach Boys
Sloop John B - Beach Boys
Catch A Wave - Beach Boys
Kokomo - Beach Boys (OK, basically anything by these guys lol)
Ride Captain Ride - Blues Image
Beyond the Sea - Bobby Darin
Sitting on the Dock of the Bay - Otis Redding
A Sailboat in the Moonlight - Billie Holiday
Under the Boardwalk - The Drifters
A Ship Without A Sail - Ella Fitzgerald
Wading in the Velvet Sea - Phish
Summertime - Janis Joplin

And anything by Jimmy Buffett.

Sounds like fun, Plankton. There is a special atmosphere on a small boat that deserves to be fostered by the right music. Big difference between the high seas and inland waterways, of course. Where are you going to be?

Anyway, my suggestions would be:-

High Seas:-
Sail Away by Enya. Don´t know why, but I feel it fits well with Sloop John B and the other the Beach Boys that BD suggested.
A Salty Dog by Procul Harum. Can´t fail with a song that includes the line, "We sailed for parts unknown to man, where ships come home to die."

Inland Waterways:-
Grantchester Meadows by Pink Floyd. Well, it´s got that swan that comes flapping out of the water that´s sloshing around in the left speaker ...

With "Red Solo Cup" in my list I can see how that fact could have been overlooked.

We'll be on the Kankakee river. Have to look into these.

How about a little of this?

Or perhaps some of this?

Or, hell, a really obvious choice like this?

I actually had that one in the queue, but since it's only an 80 minute CD, I had to make some cuts, and based on the listener criterea (late 40's, and early 50's) I had to keep to mostly old standards (not that I don't think that one is, love that tune).

Here's what I went with (last 4 are my picks, and the Budlight commercials are for the GF, she drinks that swill):

Not my best work, but yeah...
