Definitely in my top ten or fifty tunes I will never get out of my head. I still sing this to myself sometimes. I've tried around other people but it just comes off kinda weird.

The message he stuck on it seems pretty cool until you realize that it´s a neutered, de-politicized copy of an original message that Woody Guthrie was brave enough to display in the 1930s:-

I´d like to post a song that isn´t by Guthrie, but it´s one that shares his contentious, outspoken attitude. According to Wikipedia, "Strange Fruit was written in 1939 by Abel Meeropol, a white, Jewish high school teacher from the Bronx and a member of the Communist Party, as a protest against lynchings."
My favourite version is Nina Simone´s, from 1965:-

Did anyone notice how last week DJ Chameleon accused Vanilla of necro-bumping a thread? With one well-chosen prefix he turned a perfectly innocent action into something sounding distasteful, or maybe even perverse.

None the less, with no apologies I`m necro-bumping my own thread to share this celebration of a London borough with any MBer who my be interested - if not so much in the music as in the gallery of wonderful photos that goes with.
