Default The Old Curiosity Shop

If you like trawling through garage sales and charity shops, then this thread may be for you. Is anyone interested in contributing to a collection of musical junk and gems from the past?

We already have a couple of "oldies" threads devoted to praising specific decades and genres, but I couldn´t find anything that embraced all types of music and was equally open to the sublime and the ridiculous.

"They don´t make ´em like that anymore!" is a real cliché, but it has the merit of being non-commital; is it praise or damnation, or somewhere between the two? Anyway, that´s the phrase that sprang to mind when I came across this clip, which I´d like to share with you to kick things off:-

Thanks, Plankton; Spike Jones is new to me, so I really did LOL at those songs, especially when I first heard the gunshot in song #2 !

Here´s another comedy act from years ago:-

And something to remind us that not everything from the past is laughable:-

How far into the past... I have unknown and hilarious pieces of music that dates back to the Middle Ages lol.

Those sound very intriguing, BD!

(Don´t think there needs to be any time limit here; just bring it on into the shop, there are plenty of empty shelves. )

I still have this one on vinyl, sadly my brother has probably laid claim to it. We grew up listening to it:

I love those old exotica albums from Les Baxter, Arthur Lyman and Martin Denny. After watching a film on the tiki craze which featured a piece on the creators of exotica, I've been enjoying the music even more.
