David Bowie was the first to do it that year and then a lot of others followed afterward Jay Z, etc because they saw the success he garnered for doing it.
But he did not get the respect and props Beyonce did for doing it.
He didn't leak prior singles like Beyonce did to test the success of the singles.
When those two singles her team leaked over the summer received negative feedback, Her team came up with the idea to copy David Bowie and release everything all at once with flashy videos. The
PR tactic was you had to buy the album before you actually listened to it lol
