Who are in your opinion? I think Marquee Moon is my favourite CBGB's related record but as far as a whole career I would personally choose Talking Heads.

To me, Peak > Career.

Hmm, I'm unsure but that is a great question. Could be a thread.

I'm not saying they're similar, I'm saying I like their music more. Every Springsteen album from Born to Run to Nebraska is an absolute classic IMO, especially Darkness on the Edge of Town and Nebraska. Costello also had a really great run with his first four or five albums that the Heads never matched.

I'm not saying they're similar bands, but the title of the thread is "best band in the world", not "best band with a certain kind of sound in the world".

Called it.

i knew he had to be a personal favorite of yours for you to bring him into this thread.

it wasn't explained but i think most ppl got that ideally it's best to compare them to a similar band and not shove in there your fav artist.

if that were the case, all the threads made here by members claiming *Blank* band is the best would turn into ppl just naming their fav band.

I'm not shoving in any favorite artists who weren't around at the same time - Band A cannot be the best band in the world if Band B is better.

And what do you think this thread is? The OP is just saying "This band is my favorite band". Other people are saying they weren't because of other bands who were better, and I'm doing the same thing. The only difference is that I named specifics and Springsteen isn't very popular on the board.

Television is a fantastic choice and I love that album to death. I know it won't be a popular choice but The Ramones owned CBGB'S for years deserves the top of the totem pole. Were they as adventurous musically and versatile as The Heads, not even close. Did they make CBGB a standout in NY for years to come due to their popularity and virile live shows, absolutely. Thats my pick, but I know the lack of love for The Ramones and respect everyones opinion.

No, the difference is that Bruce is nothing like the talking heads.
And granted, the op is a little narrow minded but ppl here are trying to make the best of it.

It's like, imagine if someone made a Dragon force thread saying Dragon force is the best band ever, it makes sense to refute that argument with similar bands of the same genre.

but if i go there saying "Michael jackson is better" is gonna seem out of place, no?
