88. They might be giants - Flood (1990)

I used to listen to this album as a teenager cause i liked the track 'Birdhouse in your soul' but i didn't pay much attention to the other tracks but i recently revisited this album and found out almost every track is great!

it's great album to pick you up if you're having a bad day cause it's so silly and happy it just puts you in a good mood, TMBG is such quirky light hearted band with a great sense of humor in their lyrics and really good music arrangements and this album perfectly captures that.

Their music may sound a little childish at first if you're not used to the band but give it a chance and it will grow on you and pretty soon you'll find yourself singing Particle man.

Me too but when i first heard it alot of the songs went over my head but oddly enough i still liked them but now that im older and "wiser" i totally get their vibe as a band.

If you like that album here is a different version of "lucky ball and chain" i personally prefer over the studio one.

I wish they would've covered Gigantic instead of that one cause TMBG covered havalina by the pixies and did a pretty decent cover of it that's really different from the original.

That cover was alright though im just a little sick of that Chumbawamba song cause it was so overplayed when it came out the idea behind that A.V club show though i really liked i didn't know that show was on youtube.

im gonna look for more videos from them i wanna see if someone covered 'Mother' by Danzig.

89. The Rolling Stones - Between the Buttons (1967)

Yet another album with a song that has a connection with a John Hughes movie, coincidences? Not intended, I really didn't think of it at the time when I decided to nominate this album. It's just that I noticed there were no Beatles, Stones or Kinks's albums in the list as of yet and I thought I would remedy that with one of my all time favorite 60s albums from my favorite band. The John Hughes connection was an after-thought.

I'm only guessing John Hughes chose to name the girl whom the main character pines over after a Stones tune, maybe to have a ready-made song about one of his characters in the movie. If you watch the movie however the song was covered by The March Violets so you won't hear the original Stones version. The John Hughes connection aside...

The Stones could had been easily named the album "Between the Beats" cause they play in the pocket. The band plays loose and yet like they've just learn their instruments. The album has a neat lo-fi sound. I like the raw energy some of the songs have. They sound like they are about to fall apart, give up and stop playing the song but somehow pull through. Kinda like Jack White but 30-something years prior.

90. Roxy Music - Avalon (1980)



As I'm preparing to listen to this album for a second time tonight, I'm more inspired than ever to share why Avalon is a necessary listen for anyone who loves to feel music.

Avalon is a different flavor than Roxy Music's previous albums, though the permanence of their elegance is evident. There are no dramatic breaks between songs, only soft passages and smooth segues. Every song has its own personality, while stitched together like the chapters of your favorite novel. Bryan Ferry's vocals are at their most ethereally seductive throughout this soothing experience.

I've provided links to each song on this album. The only downside to this is that you won't be able to experience the seamless transitions you'd hear on the LP. (Especially the one between "India" and "While My Heart is Still Beating". Timeless beauty.

I would certainly recommend Avalon to first-time listeners of Roxy Music (or to listeners who are familiar with the glam age of the group - but weren't very impressed with what they heard) or to anyone who just wants to sit and chill. It's been in my top 5 for many years now - I'd go so far as to say it's my favorite Roxy Music album.
