What is music, what is not?

When someone says a band or artists or whatever isn't music, it's their way of expressing to everyone else that they think that band or artists is horrible, so I don't see why that statement should get the sort of reaction you gave Trollheart for saying it, Ninetales. I don't think anyone is ignorant enough to actually believe any band or artists isn't music just because they don't like them and actually mean it. Justin Beiber is one of the worst things to happen to music in a while, but I still say what he 'makes' is music, just it's really bad music.

That's exactly what Trollheart is saying. He acknowledges that others view it as music but he also said multiple times in his opinion it is not music.

It isn't "bad music" to him, it isn't music at all.

Yeah. I've gone over this too many times. I'm not going to defend myself any more. It's my opinion, nobody can change it only me. Move on please.

Haha. I've never heard of Blackadder, is Stephen Fry part of that also? I love the Fry and Laurie skits I've found on youtube.

Yeah I think I would have to agree with this to some degree. I've tried to make a point of staying fairly neutral on this thread so far, but I will have to break from that momentarily. I wouldn't say by any means that thinking grindcore isn't music is a bad opinion as I personally believe that no opinion is a bad one, however, as with the Justin Beiber analogy if it was the artists intent to make music or producer/whoever the hell makes his music it is music weather or not I like it has nothing to do with that. I feel by dismissing a substantial genre of music that has been accepted as a music genre because it doesn't sound like something you know as music limiting it? Isn't the nature of music to constantly expand and push the boundaries of what we have come to define as music? Isn't that the job of artists to break perspective and make it something new?
